Play backups without CFW?

Prolly a silly question, but I was curious... I know you can download games directly from PSN and play them from your HDD... so I was curious if there was a way to have a "digital copy" of a game and load it on the HDD without having to use a backup manager such as multiman... ( my ps3 is 3.65, so no mod for me. )

it wuld be possible if we could connect the PS3 HDD to a pc without formatting it, find the directory the PS3 saves the game downloads then copy a game downloaded from the internet on the PS3 HDD......IF POSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
