I have a PS3 Slim with FW 3.55 ive used geohotz 3.55-jb to update and it beeped shutdown and i turned it back on using console,is their anything i can look for that the jail-breaking was a success?i also did NOT update via recovery mode. also im very new to the whole PS3 scene but not to PC's and such.
EDIT:scratch that i was able to install packages and such so i can only assume it worked

You can tell if you device is jailbroken, because if you go to the games section you will notice a new icon. It's a folder, which says Install Package Files. <-- If you have that, then you know you are on a modified system.
To undo the jailbreak process, just download the original 3.55 firmware from the PlayStation website and update via storage media.

@saosyte: So the test.pkg is not that necessary right? I just need to look for "Install Package Files"?

I have a ps3 demonstration (demo) version and it does not see the update. It shows up on a normal retail ps3 so I know I got it in the right folder on my flash drive. Is there a different jailbreak PS3UPDAT.PUP file I need?

you need external hard drive (fat 32 format)
create Folder on your usb, And name it "PS3" THEN make another folder inside ps3 folder and name it "UPDATE" then put the file inside the update folder.
make sure all folders names are all in caps or else ps3 wont see it.
