I think that to do so one must investigate boot process further and change boot device to usb. I dont think that scene has this knowledge at the moment.
For PC? Yes. For Ps3? Probably not. At least not right now. Some Dev would have to workout how to get the machine to boot of the USB, but i think that would break functionality due to some checks the system does at boot. But definitely something i'd like to see in the future.
I was thinking that if we can run Debian from a USB flash drive in RAM on a PS3, PS3 - Debian Wiki, why would it not work if I boot from USB on a PC?
Any truth to the claim on the above website? "Asbestos install debian squeeze as a live system in RAM and files on USB stick, on fat and sim ps3" Going to ask Gitbrew on twitter. (And LOL, tried to register on twitter and did not realize I had an account.)
I may be wrong, but i think its on USB only to install it? I assume if it was possible it would have been frontpaged by now...
EDIT: And theoretically, a custom version has ot be made for the PS3 to run it, and i am more then 99% sure that the same distro wouldn't boot up on a standard Pc.
I think you right about "i think its on USB only to install it?" I'm no expert with Linux, just did some database programming in college and I'm a bit rusty now. Linux VI Editor ..... Run for the hills.
gitbrew@Tranced6 If both are PPC compliant then it's quite possible.
