Is there a way to switch the X and O buttons on a Jap PS3, much the same way which can be done on a PSP?
There is a fix. I Had this problem while playing James Bond Blood Stone, can't pass the camera level until you do this. HERE ARE THE STEPS! REMEMBER TO TAKE A BACKUP OF XREGISTRY.SYS FILE INCASE YOU SCREW UP!
1.)start ftp server, connect with filezilla
2.)go to /dev_flash2/etc/
3.)take xRegistry.sys from PS3
4.)open xRegistry.sys using Registry editor(SEE BELOW FOR DOWNLOAD LINK).
5.)once open, find the CHECKSUM 3FE0(most probably), it will be written ButtonAssign, its original value will be EIGHT 0's(00000000),CHANGE THAT TO SIX 0's and ONE 1(0000001). THEN SAVE THE FILE.
6.)delete xRegistry.sys from PS3 or when you upload filezilla will overwrite the original. Any of the 2 methods are fine.
7.)upload new xRegistry.sys in its place (you cant rename, so make sure its called xRegistry.sys)
8.)disconnect filezilla
9.)press stop server on PS3
10.)turn PS3 off by holding power button
11.)turn back on and changes should be applied
12.)there you go, your japanese ps3 now has american button layout. HELP OTHERS WITH THIS PROBLEM!

Now that is sweet!!!! Thank you very much for sharing that.I can't wait to test that out, that will confuse the O/H! :P
I'm still waiting for my E3's/Teensy's to arrive :'(
[cheek]Now if I can just turn off the PS1/PS2 game region lock (BluRay is a bonus but doubtful).[/cheek]
Edit: Sorry, just double checking... You're changing the ButtonAssign entry from 8 (eight) to 7 (seven) bits?
yes that's right, its a bit confusing i know...i dont know who much easier i can explain it.![]()
oh yeah!!! plz test that ps1 and ps2 region lock thing and confirm with me. I really wanna try it, i dont have time to try it myself. HATE BEING 15....always EXAMS![]()
Not confusing to me, just the geek in me saw zeros and ones and wondered why it would need to be changed from 8 bits to 7. I thought 0001 and 01 were the same thing.
If I find out how to disable the region locks, you'll be the first to know.I can't see it happening anytime soon though, till those damn dongles arrive .... :@
thnx dude, and once again yeah it is from 8 bits to 7 bits. :P
My Teensy's finally arrived this morning, now I have a JAP PS3 which understands EUR/US commands! Sweetah.
I've compared the JAP to a PAL PS3 and tried to make changes to change region locking, but it had no effect. Possibly hardware region locked?
I can't find anything to do with PS1/PS2 games, I shall have a play around with the 'emu' folders.
