I was wondering if a CFW would be able to remove the region coding check on PS1.PS2 and BluRay disks. I am from the states and live in Australia. I own a US 80 GIG backwards compatible PS3. I do however have many Australian PS1, PS2 games and would like to rent Bluray movies here. It would be nice to use the one unit for all of this. Also right now it is my ONLY BluRay player. Is this coding in the firmware (I would think it would be. It would cost more to make the hardware different.) I am sure I wouldn't be the only one who could make use of this feature.

Are you trying to make other region games work on your PS3? Because it is possible for the PS3 to play I think any region bluRay game on any PS3 region. I put in I think in any region PS3/any region BluRay game because I have only confirmed this on a US region PS3. (PS3 BluRay Games as of right now only because they are region free) Here’s how I can confirm this; I have a US region PS3 and I wasn’t able to load this EU region Fallout New Vegas SAVEDATA because my Fallout New Vegas game was US region, so I started trying stuff out to see if I can make the EU region SAVEDATA load up on my US region fallout New Vegas game but it's not possible, but I Found this method out that works. (Not to load up an EU Region SAVEDATA on a US Fallout New Vegas game but to play an EU game on a US region PS3) I was able to play with the EU SAVEDATA after that on My US region PS3 today! In other words the PS3 can play other region games because I was able to play an EU region game on my US region PS3! I haven’t tried messing around with PS1, PS2 or bluRay movies but it would be interesting to make them region free or at least find out a method that will allow other region bluRay movies/ps1/ps2 disks work on any region PS3.
Here's something interesting: http://www.ps3news.com/forums/ps3-gu...ve-119260.html that’s not the method I did. I don't know if other people have discovered this method I know of, and if they have I don't know if there is a TUT on it, but I’m not releasing a TUT or say how to do it because it might be against SONY's PS3 agreements whatever and I don't want to get SUED nor go to jail just for making the PS3 better than it is…
