Region Coding PS1, PS2, BluRay and CFW
Region Coding PS1, PS2, BluRay and CFW –

Forgive me if this has been explained somewhere else. I couldn't find the topic if has been.
I was wondering if a CFW would be able to remove the region coding check on PS1.PS2 and BluRay disks. I am from the states and live in Australia. I own a US 80 GIG backwards compatible PS3. I do however have many Australian PS1, PS2 games and would like to rent Bluray movies here. It would be nice to use the one unit for all of this. Also right now it is my ONLY BluRay player. Is this coding in the firmware (I would think it would be. It would cost more to make the hardware different.) I am sure I wouldn't be the only one who could make use of this feature.

bluray disks arent region coded... as far as i know... so far they havent done anything for ps1 or ps2 games. if they dont work normal, then until they make a working ps1 emulator, you will have to wait.

well there is a way you can do it..i tried but didnt seem to get it working. As far as i know region 9 is the region-free code. I tried changing to that but the ps3 tells me DISC CANNOT BE PLAYED, and if i put it to any other region it tells me INCOORECT REGION. Anyway if you wanna give it a go u gotta do this:-
1.Turn on Ftp on ps3 and connect with filezilla
2.go to /dev_flash2/etc
3.take out the xRegistry.sys file
4.download Registry Editor(from ps3-hacks)and open the registry file with it
5.find the correct Checksum for the dvd/ps1/ps2 region code and edit it to watever u want
6.Save the file
7.Send it back via ftp and overwrite the original file
Just take a backup of the xRegistry.sys file incase you screw up

Some BluRays ARE region coded. Thanks for the reply, but I was asking if a CFW COULD remove region coding. If it's in the firmware it should be a simple enough task. If it was possible, it would be a nice feature to add.

Sounds like your on the right track. Why else would they include that in the file? May mess around with that and see what happens.

Did anyone get this working? A tutorial for making your PS3 region free is definitely news worthy...
