Up to what version can the PS3 be jailbreaked ?

See title. I keep falling behind in the PS3 Jailbreak scene and I've still yet to jailbreak mine. If I updated my PS3 right now to the newest version to buy some games off PSN and so on, can it still be jailbreaked ?

If you can play pirated games, it's always a plus so I could try a game before buying, but if that's not possible then it's okay. I want it to be able to run homebrew so that translations can be added to JRPG's that are played from their original discs. ( This is possible with Wii, and supposedly should be now with PS3 too .. Im not sure of the details ).

Ah sorry, I should have checked FAQ's first ... Thanks for the link, though. So if I understood correctly, there's no way to run backup launchers etc. on 3.55 yet unless you use Waninkoko ( which can break PS3's ) ?

There are few other CFW that can run a backup launcher's now & WCFW Bricks only a certain kind of PS3
