    Hey guys.

I have one question: why the multiman doesnt run games in zip file?

It's more effective, because the files are compressed and the copy to/from hd is more easy and quick.

I think in someone like the psp games ( CSO or ISO files ), like the psp games ( CSO or ISO files ).

I thought i saw something about ps3.iso (not ******'s website) games being able to run? Maybe it was just burning to disc. I doubt you would get much compression out of it though to even make it worth making 1 whole zip file (for games that are over 10GBs - my opinion). Also, i think it would be more time consuming seeing that the ps3 won't even recognize a game without the param.sfo, eboot, and other files showing in the ps3_game folder. Wouldn't you also need a larger temp. directory for games to uncompress itself during gameplay ? I agree it would be more effective as far as copying to and from your HD but I think that's about it. but as said it's just a thought.

DazTip, at this moment to copy a game to the internal hd get several minutes, about 20 minutes. If the game is in a zip or iso file the copy only consume few minutes.

Exist games that dont have more than 8 Gb, so a thought to put then in a dual layer DVD. :P

To do this work i think that multiman should be able to read the param.sfo, eboot and other files from the zip/iso file.

It would be nice to be able to rip only what is needed to maintain full functionality of a game and then put it in a zip file. Could make the footprint of the game quite a bit smaller! Several more games could be added to the internal drive.

I do understand the point that DazTip makes about looking for the param, eboot, etc., etc....... files.
BUT........ (and this is just a thought thrown out on a Friday evening (ie, weekend drinking has already begun )) I can also see how it is NOT necessarily the "PS3" that is reading the files. It is the Software that is on the PS3 that actually reads the files. As Brunoso stated, MM could be written to pull the info out of a zip file in the same way that emulators pull the needed info out of zip files (albeit on a much smaller scale )

I do not know how much work it would take to do this, but I could see it happening.

I full appreciate what Dean has been doing and hope that this might be added in the future.
I would much rather go to my grave not needing my gun, than go there wishing I had it.

but it wouldnt make much sense because if you have a zip on your ps3 with ~10 GBs it would take much longer to unzip it first and then start the game too (also it would take up much more diskspace)

one question: I the console need to decompress de zip file to read the game why the emulator for windows can read the games without decompress the files?

I do speeak to put the games into a dvd-r but if the game can read a single zip file, it more simple to copy the games.

And every body say the games with 10 Gb, but the most games doesn't have much more than 6 gb.

emulator for windows reads zip files? what emu are you talking about?if you mean games and iso then its a different way and has nothing to do with a compressed zip/rar file.

There is a emu. that can read straight from the zip I forget which it is though. I never tried it but pretty sure that the windows emulator unzips the file first to a temp. directory and then plays it, unless the emu is built to decompress twice (the zip and then the game format itself)?

I used 10 GBs only as a leverage point between the 2-42 GB games as most are close to 10GBs. Don't get me wrong I'm for this even if I don't use CFW anymore. I know this isn't really followed and most will catch my pitch, but it would be a waste of time to copy from a disc to ps3 (or pc if it can read the disc) to then zip and wait to then move back to your ps3. It would take longer overall to copy a game. It is diffenately do-able, but is it worth the time? I don't have the knowledge to answer your main thread wish I did. :P, but I can give theoritical answers.

if you compress a file it is unusable (if its compressed with one of the common algorythms)
means, the emulator unpacks it in a temp folder, plays the game, deletes it afterwards, saves the savegame
->you dont have to extract the games yourself and then open it

but if you want to extract/compress a 6gb files it could take a few minutes and i think its much faster to just copy the uncompressed game because then you dont have to extract and delete a 6gb game every time

Compressing and Decompressing needs a hell of performance. Just think about the time you needed to uncompress the files you wanted to copy. And that was on your Dualcore or even Quadcore PC with GIgs of Memory.

So no: It is NOT more effective. Emulators of damn old games (like MAME) can do that, because the files are quite tiny but speaking of GIGs you would wait hours before the game is decompressed.
