Fastest Way to Transfer Games to PS3?

by far the ftp server is the most convenient... but blackbox ftp never seemed to work well on my machine, so i have been using the original ftp server...

FTP Server V1: 1.6mb-2.1mb/second

then I upgraded my ps3 hd and put the old ps3 hard drive in an external enclosure with USB2.0.. and found way better speeds.. but its a 2 step process...

Upload to External: 15-20mb/second
Upload to PS3: 10?mb/second

I'm mostly curious about people's ftp speeds. Let me know, Thanks

First make sure we're being clear:

Mb = megabit
MB = megabyte

I assume you are speaking in megabyte.

I have a gigabit network set up, and with Blackbox 1.2 I can reach speeds of up to 14MB/sec, averaging around 11-12MB/sec for the entire transfer. At gigabit or USB 2.0 (480Mb) speeds, network latency is not likely going to be the bottleneck. The write speed of the PS3s internal hard drive is going to be slower than that.

Well, from what ive noticed...if u have a gigabit network, then ftp.... but if you dont, its way faster to copy to USB and then to PS3.... of course if you have an external.... if not, you'll be forced to do it thru ftp.

I use black box v1.2 and a crossover cable or a straight through cable I average at about 25Mb/sec thats going to my internal hdd

Yea crossover cable is another option that is strongly recomended. But like i said, if u dont have a gigabit lan or a crossover cable, you better off usbing it.

Just buy some CAT 5 or 6 cable they are cheap and its well worth it. you get 5-15/sec megabits which is great 20GB takes around an hour to transfer.

I use a LAN cable (CAT 5) directly from PC to PS3, i use Gaia Manager to transfer games, i get 40-50 MB/s

You don't need to use a crossover cable, it's unnecessary.

This is alot faster than USB.

I'm using a LAN Cat 5 and I can get 25 MB/s.

How are you getting 40-50?
