Why do you think we have emulators for many, many old consoles but not for the so desired N64?

I know some people would just say go make it your self, bla bla bla.. but its not the point I want to discuss.

What is behind this? Why do we have plenty of other emulators being updated regularly ((which is excellent), but no news about N64 emulation?

It's mostly do to memory restrictions. the emulator in it's current form is to robust for the PS3 to handle. it's not impossible to fix but bassically the DYNAREC had to be rewritten from the ground up for this project and the devs that are working on it I happen to know a couple of and them live your average persons life they go to work spend time with there family and friends etc. and do the work in there spare time so yeah it's just a massive work load and they have not managed to finish it. If you can in any way help these people along or even donate to them to help them gain more free time to work on this software I urge that you do so. Either way as is always the word from these fine devs it will be ready when it's ready.

I think the biggest reason is that the N64 was notorious for being hard to program for. When it was still around a lot of publishers avoided it. Plus you also have to look at the difference in processors and converting that much code would take somebody very skilled and with a lot of time on their hands. And even then you'll run into huge sound and video lag

From Squarepusher (RetroArch Dev) 4 weeks ago

Since Kmeaw/Geohot CFWs don't allow Lv2 patching, no dynarec for you - which means no fullspeed N64 emulation I know that Kmeaw was working on a Lv2 patcher - but as far as I know nobody has gotten PS3Sx to run in dynarec mode with it on Kmeaw CFW - only PSgroove/PSjailbreak payloads.

Not to mention Wii64's (which is just a fork of Mupen64 really) MIPS PPC dynarec (that was used on the Wii) reportedly didn't work on the Cell and it required a rewrite.

If that Jaicrab 3.56 CFW is real - that would be the only way to run dynarec-enabled emulators (such as PS3sx by Anonymous) - besides going back to PSGroove/PSJailbreak.

Seriously, I see an opportunity here for dongles like True Blue and Cobra to cater to devs - since nobody is going to waste their time writing a dynarec-enabled N64 emu for the 3-4 people left using a PSJailbreak/PSgroove dongle- the PS3 scene is already small and niche as it is

It's probably a stupid question but is there a chance of using Cobra USB's psp emulator to run a HBL port to then run a N64 emu? I'm guessing "Hell NO!!!" but thought I'd ask.

I already do this, but sometimes its complicated to make all ps3 joysticks work on pc. I wish the best for the developers so one day we can play n64 on ps3.

don't we all...i wish somehow daedalus could be ported to ps3 or something.

did anyone try out the ps3sx emulator released by jaicrab and the like? i heard of no one trying it out even though they provided the program and firmware and stuff which made it look promising. i would love to run backups off the drive for better load time.

that'd be great. i just heard using plugins though for a console (on a console i mean) is pretty taxing on whatever is emulating it.
personally, i think maybe some people should try like individual emulators for each game, i.e. a pkg that installs and you place the sm64 rom in it, then another for LoZ, then one for super smash, etc.
I'd imagine the first dozen or so would be the most sought after games until someone can get a good emulator going that can run most games.
I don't develop, so it could just be a bad, time wasting idea.
