Guide? Week behind all these updates and now confused.

so the last time i read everything geohot's firmware was the way to go. i have a month old newly bought slim model and was running geohots 3.55 cfw. i lost touch with the hacking community for a week and find myself overwhelmed now. i restored back to the official 3.55 firmware because that seems to be the first step in all these guides but this is where i get confused. i really want multiman to work because i like the options and interface. but i get lost in reading about the latest cfw and udpates etc ...

can anyone suggest a place to read or a quick guide. i am great at following directions :)

i would like to update to some cfw that allows for backup support. thanks

I can vouch for Gcell's link, that is the latest and safest way to hack your PS3 with CFW + backups + PSN.

the prepatched file i found online for some reason did not work so i am going to follow guide and make my own

with file i made and the one online i get a data corrupted error 8002F997 when trying to do system update via usb. currently it has the OFW 3.55

formating the usb stick again and placing the file on there worked this time ... odd

only thing stopping me from updating to kmeaws is tht some psn pkg files dont work

so i followed that guide to a T and both backups bring me right back to the XMB.

i currently have 3.55cfw kmeaw which gives me the install package option and the /app_home/PS3_Game in my game menu. i then downloaded LV2 Patcher PKG v6 and installed it, then ran it. it gives me a hello from russia 1 repos is installed. takes me back to main menu. i then load up the most recent version of multiman and try either one of the backups i have on their currently and it boots back to the XMB.

what did i miss?

yeah, ok, so it loads the game to XMB under game and i launch it from there. wow, re-re moment. everything working fine.

First of all did you try running the permission fix on each game (R1 if I remember rightly) Also don't bother with the most recent vers of Multiman use 'multiMAN ver 1.13.00 BASE [20110120_190000]_2' or the mega vers, that way you won't have to run the lv2 patch.

Also it does not hurt to have an original game disk in that way whatever game is in will be replaced with the one you loaded in MM.
