Although much is yet to be done about CFW and BFM, but the worst part is behind us, I think we should focus also on figuring out what kind of native filesystem the ps3 has installed in, so that we can implement it (by formatting) on ext hdd and use >4gb files freely via usb ext hdd or whatever. Don't you think? It'll be easier and faster for everyone then.

And I already knew that :D you're missing the point (or maybe i misinterpreted you're answer). Ps3 support ext hdd with fat 32 and it doesn't support ext ntfs filesystem. But its native internal hdd do handle >4gb, so: which filesystem is it using?Quote:

sony is using its own fileformat. Maybe in the future someone knows how to create a format tool that does what the Ps3 does.
I don't think that'll be possible because the ps3 does not recognize a hd formatted with its internal hd file system if its connected via usb. I just upgraded my internal hard drive and the ps didn't recognize the old internal drive when i connected it via usb until i had formatted it as fat32.
Their internal filesystem is the same as whats used in linux, exFat, I think. The firmware controls what the USB ports will read. It's set up to ignore anything that's not formatted in Fat32. If someone could bypass this check then external hard drive support with much file sizes as well as larger hard drives could be obtained, but I don't think anyone is working on it.
I am dying for NTFS support. Someone will crack it soon.
Again, exFAT is a possibility. NTFS is a Microsoft technology and is a lot more difficult to get working when exFAT would accomplish the same thing.
