It depends how many ps3 games do you own and now you know why you shouldnt update...
most likely there wont be a cfw comming out soon
so you might as well sell that one and buy a used one off of ebay
3.56 is a crappy situation!
No playing of backups (legal or otherwise), no online access and no ability to downgrade.
Really depends on what you want to do.
Do you want to play single player campaign style games, run all kinds of good software and backup your original disc (or rented games, downloads......whatever) or do you want to play online with the games you own (or rent) and stick with what Sony allows to be put on your PS3.
If you are talking about buying a new one and not selling your old one.........you would have the best of both worlds.
If I were in the situation that I wanted the ability for both, I would simply go buy another one and bump it to 3.60 OFW (keeping my existing one on 3.55 CFW).
If you are financially unable to do that then you have to figure out which is more important to you. Online or backups.
As far as a solution coming out soon.
It could be tomorrow. It could be next week. It could be next year.
I would treat the situation as if it was NEVER going to happen and make a decision based on that.
If you do buy a second one, make sure it is on 3.55 or lower (if bought new, you should be able to use the model number to determine if your chances of older firmware are good). After the firmware is confirmed and it is a good, functioning machine, then bump your old one to 3.60 and wait for Sony to fix the F-up with PSN.![]()
I have two ps3 one on 3.6 and other 3.55cfw. buy one dont even think about it.
Honestly, why are you bothering with sitting on 3.56? Might as well upgrade to 3.60, have PSN access (when it does come back up) get a second hand PS3 from GameStop or somewhere for cheap and hope it has 3.55 or lower firmware.
You shouldn't even second guess or have to ask if you should or not. If you have to money, do it! Trust me, extra funds come my way, that's what I'm doing and I haven't even thought twice about it!
If I bought a 2nd PS3 it'd be used, that way Sony isn't making money from me xD
Definitely a used ps3 that's backwards compatible if you can find one
thanks for the advice, it looks like i have to go with a second ps3 i just hope i won't get stuck with two 3.56 at the end!
Unless you are buying it brand new from one of the "big box" stores (Fry's. Best Buy....etc......), you should have no reason to be stuck with two un-hackable PS3's.
Even buying from one of the retail outlets (as I said in my first post), you have access to the model number of the PS3's and can determine if it is a good candidate for older firmware.
