Okay I need some serious help. Basically I wanted to play BF3 on my 3.55 REBUG PS3. I installed the patch and crack for the game and I think it was the crack that messed things up. I tried booting up BF3 and it rebooted and said "The firmware could not run correctly." It asked for 3.55 OFW and I complied. I got it booted and I backed up my backups, saves and trophies to my external HDD. I formated the internall HDD and I installed 3.55 OFW from the recovery menu. After that I tried to install REBUG. It didn't work. It went up to %62 and then said "8002F997 the data is corrupted." I found it to be strange so I did Restore Default Settings, Restore File System and Rebuild Database. Again REBUG did not work. So then I tried Geohot which would not even start instead I got "8002F99D". I also get 8002F99D with 3.55 OFW now. Is there any type of solution for all of this? Also, when I restored it to 3.55 OFW it still ran multiMAN. I couldn't play backups but I could use the file manager.

Here are my notes I took along the way.

    XMB/OFW-8002F99D
    XMB/REBUG-Fails at %61/8002F997
    XMB/Geohot-8002F99D
    SAFE/OFW-8002F2C5
    SAFE/GEHOT-8002F2C5
    SAFE/REBUG-8002F2C5

    Restore Default Settings [X]
    Restore File System [X]
    Rebuild Database [X]

Note: Wont display disc games. After rebuilding databse game works again.

weird. From what I've been able to find and read up on that code which isn't much, it's related to downgraded consoles. I couldn't find a clear answer on it. There is a couple of things that I would try if I were in your shoes but you should know that this is just troubleshooting advice - not a clear cut solution. Redownload your update files and make sure you have valid files. Also make sure you're installing from recovery menu. I did have an issue a while back installing rebug from recovery menu but I don't think it's related to your problem. The issue I had was my console kept going back to 3.15 when installing rebug. I corrected that by updating from the XMB. You might want to try updating from both locations. The official 3.55 can be found in the downloads section on this forum. It is safe, I've used it. Download your rebug update again from Codename: REBUG and run it through an md5 checksum tool. If you don't know what that is it's a tool to verify your downloads are correct. Search SourceForge for a free one. On the rebug site you'll see the following for the 3.55.2 firmware

    Code:
    REBUG_3.55.2_PS3UPDAT.rar
    df1cddc686633ffa6a6aeb90e87da00a

    REBUG_3.55.2_PS3UPDAT.PUP
    9f300f02a08ec16a91a17b5add399885
you copy and paste that long string into a checktool and point it to the corresponding file and it will verify you've got a working copy. Since you've already formatted your hard drive, if you have access to a usb enclosure connect your hard drive to your computer, then delete the partition, create a new unformatted partition, and plug it back in your ps3. Easeus makes a good free tool. Then let your PS3 format your drive and install the firmware. Like I said, I'm not sure what's going on with that error code, this is just troubleshooting advice

Okay I tried installing OFW from XMB and to no succes. I ran Rebug through md5 and it checked out. I ran it from the XMB and I get 8002F99D. On safe mode I get The Data Is Corrupted. I was curious so I downloaded 4.00 and what do you know everything there runs smoothly. I didn't install it must be the system in some way. Can I update to 3.56 and downgrade?

I think I found the problem. I looked on my system setting and it said 412GB/475GB were being used. I formatted it already so this must be the problem.

Yeah, that looks like your problem. Follow my instructions up top for deleting the partition. If you don't have a USB enclosure I just bought a good one from Amazon.com for just over $2. Just search for "2.5 sata hard drive enclosure" and look at the lowest priced ones they still have

Didn't work. I don't know why. I formatted the HDD and nothing. It still says the data is corrupted. I have tried diffrent PCs, flash drives, and sites. Should I just wait for a 4.00 CFW?

you say you formatted. Did you delete the partition then create a new unformatted partition on your computer and then let your ps3 do the format?

Got it. I was messing around in my HDD from my PS3 and I found out it was write protected. I disabled and am currently installing 3.55 OFW. Thanks for the help.

don't sweat it. Can't figure out how it managed to get write protected in the first place, but looks like you got it worked out
