Help for a noob needed please.

Hi, i need a little help with jailbreaking my slim ps3 running 3.55 firmware, i have a matrixps3 dongle and a psjailbreak dongle both purchased from a reputable source, i go to matrixps3.com and load the latest upgrader software on to dongle (i pressume thats the right one) i get as far as putting the ps3 into service mode (big red box at bottom right of screen) then im stuck with what to load and what to do at the next stage of the process !
i have looked for a step by step guide on youtube but just cant seem to find what i need any help/advise with the rest of the setup would be much appreciated as my son is now driving me nuts as i'v been trying for the last 5 days.
If you know of any step by step guide for a complete noob i would be eternally great-full

I can help you. Pack your PS3 back up in the box and return it to wherever purchased. When asked the reason for return, say "I'm too cheap to pay for games, and too stupid to get them for free." Of course, that requires you actually read this post, and from the looks of it you have problems reading, otherwise you'd know YOU DON'T DONGLE JAILBREAK A PS3 ON 3.55!!!!!!!!!

After that, go buy a pre-modded XBOX 360, much more noob friendly.

And don't ever start an article with "help for a noob" and think it gives a get outta jail free card on not reading a single post from the last 30 or so days.

P.S. - Before anyone flames me for being too harsh, I'm doing this kid a favor and telling him to return his $300 piece of equipment before he turns it into a very expensive paperweight by stupidly installing CFW without reading directions.

Silly me for thinking for a minute that asking for help i would get any !
As my post explained and from the looks of it YOUR the one have problems reading, i have no idea how to do it hence the request for a little help,as for to cheap to buy games, the games are expensive when you have 2 sons that would like different games so hence the need for back ups as im sure you know, also i wasn't looking for a "get outta jail free card" was just trying to inform the forum the i was a noob when it came to this sort of thing presuming this would be good info for anyone that could help,as i couldn't find a solution to my problem after looking through this forum and many others for quiet some time !

Also, just for your information, your comment "I'm doing this kid a favor" just shows your ignorance as if you had read my post correctly and in full you would have noticed i said "as my son is now driving me nuts" and were im from (London, England) that would lead you to believe that i was certainly not a kid , i also have 2 moded 360's that work fine but kids being kids they wanted PS3's.

So with that said i presume you know everything and always have from the beginning of time about this sort of thing and have NEVER needed help/advice before good for you Einstein ......... lets just hope you never need help or if you do hope you dont get that help/advice from someone like yourself, Thanks again for your input.

Steve. if you have no idea how to do it, WHY did you attempt to do it? Surely it would have been better to ask/read forums before attempting to hack? I'm not going to call you names as I want to help. It looks to me that your console is stuck in the middle of a downgrade.

You don't need a dongle for 3.55 you Jailbreak with CFW custom firmware after installing genuine 3.55 from Sony. Sorry I can be of no further help.

Thanks for the constructive advice Xul, i did try to attempt the mod but got stuck half way through i managed to get into service mode but could get no further after several attempts and was obviously worried about bricking it, i have read about JB3.55 CUSTOM firmware but read conflicting info so was a little dubious of installing it and just thought the dongle way was a safer option.I will ,im sure, get it sorted eventually but just thought a little advice/help from those in the know would be a good idea but obviously blazie151 would disagree.

It's simple, you shouldn't have done what you did before reading a tutorial or guide written for 3.55 ofw, and you never mess around with a factory service mode unless you know exactly what you are doing. Just cause your a noob to this scene doesn't give you an excuse for not having the common sense to know that.

Now, I can help you for real. If your console is not bricked and will boot to the xmb without a dongle, i.e. stock, follow this guide.

If your console is bricked and won't boot properly to the xmb, take an unmodified 3.55 ofw pup and place it on a usb thumb drive that has been formatted to fat32, then restore to that firmware from service mode. Once your console is working fine, follow the above guide.

As i said i did read a tut before i made any attempt but after i decided to start it i got stuck thats why i wanted to know if i was doing it right and if not how to.

PS3 is fine as i just loaded the Lv2diag.self file and came out of service mode as i couldn't get any further.

I will have a go at the tut you posted at the weekend and see if i can work it out.

Nice to see the ps3 didn't brick, you got lucky. If you still couldn't get it to run right after my last post I was gonna tell you to try the lvl2diag file way. The tutorial is really a formality, the process to upgrade to kmeaw's cfw is so easy a chimpanzee could prolly do it (definitely a caveman, lol). From bone stock 3.55 OFW, just enter recovery mode (vids on youtube showing how if you don't already know), and update to kmeaw's CFW. Just make sure you do a MD5 hash check on the file before you flash it, because if the file corrupted and the ps3 doesn't realize it and flashes it anyways, your guarenteed an unrecoverable brick.
