Please help. I have had cfw kmeaw 3.55 for about a year now. Last night the kids were playing zombies on black ops and left the ps3 running. It shut down on its own after awhile. This morning I went to turn on and the light on the front changes to amber then blinking red and won't boot up.

How to fix? Has sony jacked up my system some how? Please Please Please help.

    thx

It's called the Yellow light Of Death (YLOD)
It comes up (most of the time) when the PS3 overheats and the soldering joints some how smelt/breakup/f' up so the PS3 Self-check (which happens at every bootup) fails (source: http://www.computerbild.de/artikel/c...t-5395136.html [german])
There are many guides on the web, but i wouldn't follow all of them. Best way is to give it to a professional repair service.

    2 Questions:
    1. If the kids didnt quit the game, it won't turn off (also if the energy-saving options are activated) maybe the PS3 simply overheat and it only seemed that it has turned off itself..(?)
    2. How could you be on 3.55 CFW for a year if it got released a few months ago? Well that doesn't really matter but..

If it YLOD(s) once it wont help if you let it cool down (i guess it could mess it up even more in the worst case)
There is an amazing guide on which errors let a YLOD occur and how to fix them.

Unfortunatly its in german too. But you could tell me if its the "long" or the "short" YLOD like shown in the videos

Cooldown won't prevent it from happening again in the near future, even if it does start to work properly again. Simple fact is, the damage is already done. Taking it to a professional repair shop is the recommended course of action, since they will reflow the board reversing any damage the heat has caused (such as cracked solder joints). Make sure they have a reflow machine or else they're just gonna take it apart, clean it out, apply some thermal paste, and attempt a partial reflow with a heat gun (in lamens terms they're patch it with the equivalent of some elmer's glue and it'll fall apart again in a short amount of time, usually AFTER their own 30 day warranty)

it's the short ylod, and yes letting it sit did nothing for it. What would be the best method in finding shops that can fix this type of stuff? I've never seen anything for it. Guess google will have to help me.

if its the short one, there's most likely a problem with the voltage/power supply and/or fuses (don't know if this is the right word)

What would be the best method in finding shops that can fix this type of stuff?
    well theres another problem
-the high cost, BGA reflow or however its called could cost more than 100$ and you cant be sure if they keep the FW untouched
-you most likely won't find a store w/ repair service on the streets -> you need to find a reliable one @ google
-you dont want to send it to SONY because they will mess up your CFW + let you pay even more

Hell, I'm just trying to get past the point that you have been on CFW for about a year now.

How were you able to manage something like that?
I would much rather go to my grave not needing my gun, than go there wishing I had it.
