Are you kidding me? Recovery Mode + not-original PS3 controller = stuck on FW?

Whats up guys, I got some weird ass problem here

Whenever I try to access the recoverymenu I don't get past the "Press Home Button blablabla" screen

I don't have the original gamepad anymore but I got this thing instead:

Its a PC/PS2/PS3 controller and it always worked fine but now when I try to get to the Recovery Menu the Homebutton of it doesn't work anymore or my PS3 freezes (can't tell what it is because I cant turn it of either)

Is it usual that you can't turn it off while at the Homebutton screen?
If no, how the fcuk am I supposed to install another CFW now?
I can't remember if I've ever used this controller on stuff like this before or not after I sold my first PS3 (thats why I don't have the original controller anymore)

EDIT: ok so I found out, I need the original controller

but wasnt there a way to install FWs without the need of the recovery menu?
I don't wanna buy/borrow a new controller for such a small task

or else you could tell how to get GTA4 BLUS30127 to work on Kmeaw (I tried literally EVERYTHING; PKGs/Ebootfixes, fix permission, Select + X, MultiMan Eboot Fix, reinstalling MM,... now the last thing I could think of is installing Rebug..)

or atleast how to copy/unlock unmovable savegames (Assasins Creed 2+3, ..) so I can try to format my HDD

unless using a manual spoofer disable the spoofer and you should be able to install the rebug firmware through the update menu. if using a manual firmware spoofer than you would have to replace the original info in the spoofed files. otherwise you should be able to just update via usb from XMB

As for why it wont work are you using the latest BDEMU and backup launchers? I doubt changing to rebug will help any at all. Are you sure its a good rip? try re ripping it and see if it plays. also you sure it works?

can you install REBUG through XMB? I had GTA 4 working in KMEAW
