Anyone know if the Western Digital 3.0/2.0 hard drive can be used with the PS3 on firmware 3.55. I don't need for games necessarily but want to put my videos, music and photos and such on there. I have a couple of 2.0 hard drives that work fine but need another and want to make sure it will work before I purchase it.

Is it a WD My Book? If so your ps3 won't detect those even if it's formatted to FAT32. The problem is the PS3 won't recognize that special firmware they use in it as a hdd and WD offers no way to remove it and turn it to a normal external hdd.

ok, so I read through the other thread DEMON01 and had some good info. Nothing is for sure though. I know how to format to fat32 correctly. I have 2 western digital usb 2.0 drives that are 2tb each and the enitre drives are formatted as fat32. I just need to know if the ps3 will actually communicate with the newer western digital drives since they are discontinuing the usb 2.0 drives under all brands and they are becoming harder to find unless you go on the internet to find.

I recently bought a Western Digital 3.0/2.0 hard drive with 2TB, it works fine.
Just use one of the hundrets of free tools to format it with FAT32 and have fun.
