from what i know, no, netflix will not work without being on the current firmware (playon workaround excluded). being on v3.66 also means you'll have to use progskeet to downgrade to v3.55 to be able to backup your games.
on a sidenote, $180 for a 320Gb (i'm assuming you meant 320Gb not 365Gb?) slim ps3 is a steal!
Yeah, hopefully i will have time tonight to swing over and get it. There is no deal breaker with not being able to save backed up games and netflix or whatever. The sole purpose of this will be for my wife to use Netflix when I am at work with my daughter since they are both home every day all day. Of course, would be nice to be able to play a few games here and there.
One thing I am anxious for though, Apple's event tomorrow and the possible release of a new Apple TV 3... Will be a toss up for sure.
i have an atv2 that i jailbroke awhile ago.... probably the best thing i ever did to that thing! in stock form the only it was really good for was streaming netflix. it could stream audio or video from another computer on your home network, but only if it was itunes-friendly! jailbreaking it releases that limitation and it now streams EVERYTHING (mp4, mkv, avi, wmv, m2ts, mv4, etc)! plus you can also install xbmc and stream everything else (movies you havent downloaded, current tv episodes, music, etc). that little guy practically replaces cable tv! i even get hbo & showtime through xbmc! lol? i'm sure apple tv3 will just be the dual core variant utilizing the a5 cpu found in the ipad2 and 1iphone 4s... which would make streaming 1080 video work much better! the atv2 doesnt handle 1080 very well, but 720 is perfect! here comes sbs 3d to atv3! best $100 i never spent! lol, i got mine for Christmas!
for me, gaming is more enjoyable when i can play with friends... i dont use my jailbroken ps3 for games. not to mention that a lot of newer games simply dont work on v3.55 (without a trueblue dongle).... my jailbroken ps3 sits in my media room where it streams everything i've downloaded from my dlna nas (movies, music, etec) - i use it more for watching stuff than playing games. although, it does come in handy to let my nieces and nephews play my backed up games without worrying that they'll destroy the discs! plus they wont ruin my player stats in online gameplay! hahaha, jk
Icefilms is awesome but hasnt been updated for a while. assuming thats what your talking about. what plugin are you using for xbmc to get free hbo and showtime?
tomorrow we are going to find out the ATV3 info and release date. I will make my desicion then. Only thing i an interested in is Netflix for the wife as I have mentioned but would be nice to play games every now and then during some free time. Wife hates the little Apple remote though. she DESPISES to use it for the onscreen keyboard
I use Navi-X... Which scrapes icefilms too. Icefilms is slowly upgrading though, since megaupload got taken down. They use mostly rapidshare and 2-file now
dang.. tough call here man.. ATV3 or PS3 for 1/2 the price. Im leaning toward the ATV3 ((im sure thats not what this forum wants to hear haha))
for what i need, this is perfect. I had the ATV2 and liked it a lot but my main concern was the x.264 files wouldnt play nativly so i had to install PLEX or XBMC.
So now, I will wait for the ATV3 to be jailbroke and see what happens from there. in the mean time, i am fine with using the laptop on the TV
really? my atv2 plays x.264 from my nas perfectly fine! like i said, it probaby depends on what resolution your x.264 files are. atv2 doesnt do well with 1080, but will do 720 just fine!
i search nzbmatrix for HD and always choose 720(x264), gives me these specs (this is not a movie i have but one i would choose for format, etc
Video Codec ...............: x264
Video Resolution ..........: 960 x 720
Video Bitrate .............: 4 713 Kbps
are you using it out of the box as in, find movies or using a transcoder or xbmx or something to play? i only ask because these type of movies will not "go" into itunes, therefore you can not see them in the itunes movie list..
note- i used ios4 before, not 5 when i had an ATV2
my atv2 is jailbroken and i use atv2 black from seas0npass. their software puts a "media" option on the atv2's main menu bar, next to general settings, computers, etc. a jailbroken apple tv gets rid of the stock limitation of ONLY iTunes playable content.... with the "media" option, i can point my atv2 to ANY host on my network. any windows machine with shared folders, my network attached storage server, etc. it now plays avi, wmv, mp4, m2ts, mkv, m4v, etc at up to 720 resolution just fine. whenever i try playing 1080 content it first shows a message that the atv2 MIGHT stutter trying to play it because the hardware just isnt fast enough.... and sure enough you can see the frame rate drop and and you get slight video stuttering on playback (with 1080), but audio sounds fine. i believe xbmc should play it too, just need to point it to the host as well, but since atv2 black includes the "media" option on the main bar, i figured the fewer overhead running the better. with atv2 black i didnt need to do the nitotv route to install xbmc... because it gave me the option from atv2 black directly....
ATV Black i cant find to "download" seems only to pay for it.. true?
