    Hi folks,

I've a PS3 slim 120GB here from june'10, and since a few weeks when playing games like blackops the blu-rayy sounds like a floppy disk drive. You can hear it constantly searching and moving the laser. Sometimes my NFS Shift freezes and I have to remove power chord to exit. Also ejected disks have dust lines (vertical) on them.

Problem is my ps3 had been Jailbroken on 3.55kmeaw and I had received a warning mail from $ony. Now i've updated it to 3.56 and removed my hacked stuff and homebrew pkgs. I'm going to update it to 3.60 tomorrow

Can I still trade it in for repair (in Netherlands) or can Sony find out if it has been Jailbroken, even after a long format (7 hours)? If so, I stay on the 3.56 and do an aftermarket repair.

    Thanks for your help.

you did a total format, yeah your fine...they wont know now, even if they do, it wont matter, cos they sent you a mail telling you to remove it and you did. So your a good boy to sony -.-. Anyway, my guess is your laser is screwed, its having trouble reading the discs(like it happened with my ps2)...have you tried cleaning it?...like take a vaccum cleaner...turn it on, and just stick it near the holes of the ps3(this is not what you think)...seriously...do that, it cools down the ps3, cleans it super fast as well.

But just dont over do it and make it so powerful that u rip off the chipsets and what not while your at it.

Good news: the format and update probably solved the issues!

You should warranty it if your still in warranty anyways. The disc drive should never sound like that.
