    Hi Guys!

Im new to the forum! I have a few questions.I have used the search function also before i posted.

I have a PS3 Phat on 3.10 firmware and the issue is my Bluray drive isn't reading DVD'S, CD'S or anything else at all but is ejecting and taking in disc fine no issue and i'm able to boot up into the XMB without any problem

First question is there a specific custom firmware i should be using if i want to jailbreak my PS3 Phat considering my Bluray drive doesn't work?

i have googled and seen a BDB drive by pass firmware but this has been about since january and was unable to find anything else.

will i be able to upgrade to KMeaw 3.55 with no issues? and install PKG's? or will i come across issues?

Didn't know if anyone else on this forum has been in this position and managed to get the PS3 with a non working Bluray onto a custom firmware and get for example Multiman working?

    Thanks
    Daniel

dude, just download the stealth rebug 3.55 cfw(by blazie), and install it on your ps3, download the latest multiman and play your games....upgrading fws and installing pkgs, has nothing to do with the blu ray drive. It depends on your USB ports and a working fat32 format usb drive/hdd/ipod/phone whatever. Also multiman now supports 90% games to work without the disk. But there may still be a few games that dont work without a proper ps3 game in the drive. But thats highly unlikely to happen.

Im not saying to install blaize's 3.55 rebug stealth cfw for any specifc reason, just that its the latest out there....if you feel comfortable go with kmeaw 3.55 if you want. Thats upto you, but apart from that the blu ray drive wont be causing you any probs apart from its main job of reading disks. But hey! who needs disks when you got torrents, right?

    Perspex,

People have said if i try to update without a working bluray drive i will just get into a loop as it will get stuck when the firmware checks to see if the bluray drive is working or not...

    correct or incorrect?

Ok, I've dealt with several of these before. If your drive isn't working, first step is to upgrade to an official firmware. If the update goes through without a problem then the issue is not your blu ray drive, but it's laser, which is extremely common in that model ps3. From there, get it repaired. Simple.
