    Hello Chris from modchip.ca here.

I have not looked into this for some time but is it now possible to take a old ps3 drive from a dead ps3 and put it into a new hacked ps3?

    Thanks for insight!

with that said if i can get the ps3 going briefly is there a way to remove a key or change the drive so it works in a hacked machine? customer want their purchased ocntent and game saves moved, its a rfl problem so it can be fixed briefly again - it was already repaired once a year ago.

what you'd need to do is get the old drive back up and running in the old ps3. You need to find out the hex userid of the account he has been using. This can be found in xregistry.sys or by reading the param.sfo file of an old game save. Ideally you'd then ftp in and copy the saves and trophies from /dev_hdd0/home/00000001 (or whatever his profile umber is). Obviously if it isnt jailbroken then the only option is to use the backup utility to transfer the content. Also remember to deactivate his PSN account while it's back on.

Then on the new ps3 pop in the drive, it'll format it. You can then ftp across the old savedata and trophy folders, amend the hex userid of the new PS3 userid profile within xregistry.sys. This will then stop the ps3 from detecting that the saves and trophies have come from a different system and will allow them to work with no issues. If you didnt have the ftp'd folders to manually copy back then you need to use the backup utility, this time to restore the backup you made. You still must edit the userid otherwise his games will not be able to use the savesas it will complain they have come from a different user. Again - the hex userid is the key point in this.
