PS3 backwards compatible on SLIM??
Before I get flamed and spammed and told it's not possible, giving the current circumstance of the JB and other CFW anything is possible still at this point. Forgive me if there's a topic or mention of this someone else, but I haven't found anything.
Note: I'm looking at this from the stand point of a PSP. To me, it's a smaller/lesser ver. of the PS3 especially since the XMB is identical (even with the talk now of a PSP2*)
Quick specs:
PS3 Slim on GeoHot 3.55
So poking around and found in the directory: "dev_flash/" were folders marked "ps1emu, ps2emu and pspemu". Most people would think eh, whatever...but within those folders are self files and a bin file. (This may vary for others, dunno.)
dev_flash/ps1emu:
ps1_emu.self
ps1_netemu.self
ps1_newemu.self
ps1_rom.bin
dev_flash/ps2emu:
ps2_emu.self
ps2_gxemu.self
ps2_softemu.self
dev_flash/pspemu
flash0 (folder)
-font (folder) - there's more content in this folder
-logo (folder) - there's one item in this folder
-usermodule (folder) - there's more content in this folder
release(folder)
psp_emulator.self
psp_translator.self
...anyways, what I'm getting at is there's .self files in here that seem like it would give some information into developing EBOOT.bin files for PS1, PS2, and PSP.
On the PSP scene there's tools already created for making EBOOTS.bin for PS1 and PSP (which goes to show the scene is pretty huge and sticking it to Sony like crazy!) With these files, maybe there's something in them that's useful for not making emulators to work for the PS3 but actually creating EBOOT's that'll work on the system.
That's just my thoughts since I have no programming knowledge.
