Hey guys i just purchased a ps3 on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....=STRK:MEWAX:IT
it has a faulty blu ray drive.
i have a ps3 at home (CECHGO2) that has YLOD. i was wondering if it is possible to just take out my Blu Ray Drive from the YLOD ps3 and put it in this one i just purchased?
the seller said something about the blu ray drive and motherboard are tied together by a unique key??
    thanks for your help!~

yea, it depends on whats wrong with the drive though. a chip on the blueray drive can only be used with the motherboard it came with. So if its like a laser or gear fault, you can just change over the chips and put the working drive in it. I have done it myself successfully. But if its a chip problem, there is no fixing it sorry =/

the seller says that he puts a disk in and it accepts the disk but does not read it (the clock doesn't srop spinning)
this is what the seller says:
Thanks for your purchase, I'll write exactly what needs to be done because each PS3 has a unique key, so yours and mine wouldn't be the same.

This is a guide as to what exactly you'll need to do:

    1. Take my Blu Ray drive and remove the circuit board from it.
1a. To do this, you will need to remove the two silver screws from the bottom of the drive, and the 3 black ones. remove the metal sheilding and surrounding metal from the drive. Next, remove the circuit board by carefully removing the attached ribbon cables and then the screws holding it down.
    2. Take your Blu Ray drive and remove the circuit board from it. (see step 1a on how to do this).
    3. Put the circuit board from MY drive into the drive from YOUR drive.
    4. Put YOUR drive into MY PS3 and enjoy!

Personally, I would swap the boards.

It's really not all that difficult.

Whatever you do, I hope you get it working properly.
I would much rather go to my grave not needing my gun, than go there wishing I had it.
