Portable Hard Drive not recognised (a bit odd though)
Portable Hard Drive not recognised (a bit odd though) –
I have a Western Digital 1TB Passport portable hard drive and my PS3 slim will not recognise it whatsoever, it works absolutely fine with my Mac and is formatted to FAT 32. The hard drive also makes an intermittent beeping sound once every minute or so. I know that this would usually mean that the hard drive is knackered but the fact that it doesn't make the beep sound when plugged into my Mac makes me doubt that!
I've recently had my PS3 downgraded to 3.55 with multiMAN (not sure if that makes any difference).
I also wondered if the fact that I use a Mac had caused the problem so I used my dad's Windows laptop to format the hard drive to FAT32, this didn't work.
I also read that PS3's don't like hard drives of this size and it was recommended that I partition it, so I did this into 10 partitions of 100gb. It's still not recognised.
Jegreeny (a very frustrated man).
I've used Fat32 up to 1tb with no problem, and heard of 2tb being used. Use Split4G.exe, I think it comes with most of the FULL multiman releases, or google. It's always worked. Also don't partition your drive unless you plan on having 1 partition for ps3 and the rest for your personal/or computer - I may be wrong but i think ps3 only reads the first partition of hard drive.

Is that a USB 3.0 drive. IIRC USB 3.0 only drives have problems even when formatted with FAT32. I've heard that plugging them in through a USB 2.0 hub can alleviate the issue. I'm getting a hub tomorrow and will try this out with my 1TB passport drive.
Thanks. Is Split4g software compatible with Mac?
Also, i'm afraid I don't know what GPT or MBR are lol i'm new to all of this and may need to treat me like an idiot....i won't be offended i promise
Interesting.... could you let me know if this works please and if so which one you've bought? Thanks
