Thanx for the reply, but I have tried both suggestions to no avail. I had started with the 3.41 and updated to 3.50 so that I could attempt the downgrade process. I wish I never did it because now my PS3 just turns off after about 10 seconds. Grrrr, I have tried and tried but all I get when I power on is a green light, fan comes on and harddrive light lights up briefly and USB stick lights up briefly then the harddrive light again briefly and powers off. Thanx again for help

It happened the same to me while I was downgrading, if nothing works then put the first Lv2diag.self and the update to 3.5 in the flashdrive, right usb port, turn on the console, it will turn off after a while, second lv2diag.self, it's as good as new. Then do the process again to downgrade, better luck next time

Thx to all for the helpfull post.
I also bricked my ps3 with the psgrade in the way the other guys above did. I was on 3.41 and just wanted to checkout psgrade. It worked fine but when i want to go back to retail menue something went wrong with the Lv2diag.self (file 2). When I started the ps3 it did only boot for 10 sec, and went back to redlight (off). I tried everything (different sticks, different .self files) but it nothing changed. So I decided to flash the original 3.41 again. Hold the poweron button until the ps3 turns off again. Then press and hold poweron again until the ps3 bieps two times, now u are in the recovery mode and I updated the ps3 to 3.41 with usb device. Now the ps3 is working as before my psgrade faults ;-)
With this way everything also the harddrive will be erased. I think this way should also work if u did something wrong even if u are on 3.50 or 3.51. The only difference is that u need the original firmware files from ur version. (I was never above 3.41 so i could flash back to 3.41)
Now the only problem is that blurays doesnt work, but i can play again.
Does anybody know a fix for that?
I hope maybe I could help somebody and Sorry for my bad english (not a native)

Thanks to all that helped and those who tried. Recovery mode was what got me back to 3.50 and I retried the downgrade to 3.41 and it's all good now. Thanks again guys for your input.

i am having the same problem downgrading 3.50 to 3.41 w/ps3usbjailbreak. The first time it bricked i followed the directions and was able to recover from it. I tried again to downgrade and now it sounds like it's gonna boot into the recovery mode but after the two beeps it turns right back off again (solid red light). any help would be appreciated.

Hold the power button until it powers off, then hold power button and as soon as u hear two beeps, let go off the power button. Surprise, your in recovery mode.
