pkg black screen
Hi guys, every-time I try to open up a pkg file on my ps3 it always goes to a black screen and I cant get out of it without forcing the ps3 to shutdown. I can install all pkg files fine but every time I try to open it this happens.
It's only started happening today though and I been able to use pkg files before this all fine.
I'm running CFW 3.55 not sure whose though as i got it second hand and pre jail-broken.
Is there any reason that this is happening?? I heard it could have something to do with the hard-drive and so I ran a full disk-check on it but nothing :(.
From what I have searched up this is what I've tried:
Resetting into safe-mode area and going to Restore File System. This works fine although every time it says my hard-drive is corrupted and runs though this whole thing and everything works perfectly except I still have the pkg black screen problem.
Tried cleaning the bluray lens as well, I heard it could have to do with the logic board being broken? Is this true? and could there be an easy way I can test if it is the logic board?
When I bought the PS3 I was told that the laser was broken (although when I tried it I could play a DVD on it all fine) so not really sure whether it could be either one of them. Although I'm hoping its not :(
what do you mean you can install pkg files fine but when you open them you get a black screen? Where exactly are you getting the black screen? When you install the pkg, or you try to run whatever you just installed?
When I install the package file it installs all perfect, but when I click on the package file to run, it looks like it tries to run and the screen goes black at that point (so when running, not installing).
Is it a problem with 1 or 2 or with all. And what are they. Really need more info to help you

Originally I tried it on multiman cobra manager (MMCM) 04.02.00 and black screen, I then tried BR redirect reset I think it is, an got black screen, an also tried open last played title or which its called and black screened there too.
I thought it could be MMCM so I tried updating to 04.02.01 MMCM and still the same thing, I then tried downgrading by deleting the original MMCM and going back to
the normal multiman 02.09.00 (all of them were base) and I still get the black screen every time I tried to run them (not install).
I looked around a few forums and read that installing this package called "fix permissions" can help and so I tried but when i tried to run it black again. I also tried installing Lv2 patcher which installed but again black screen when trying to run.
you say all your installed files, but you only really mentioned multiMAN related products. Do you have comgenie's file manager or OpenPS3FTP installed? Showtime? Emulators? Do any of those run? How much free space do you have? (did you install multiman with no free space) Do you have your display and audio settings correct in the system setup? (incorrect display settings can cause programs not to run) What does it say when you go into your system settings menu to look at the version? If it's confined to multiMAN than load up comgenie's file manager or your ftp app and delete this folder dev_hdd0/game/BLES80608 . and reinstall. If it's truly that nothing wants to run I would try to reflash the firmware. Look for 3.55 kmeaw in the download section here or get 3.55.2 rebug from Codename: REBUG. If you don't know how to install it there are many guides out there. and in the forums here. It may or may not work depending on your problem but hopefully it's a software problem and not a hardware one
Cheers man for trying to help, unfortunately I still can't get it to work, I tried installing comgenies files manager and also openps3ftp, but still the same problem with it going black when I tried running them. I have about 60 gig of free space at the moment so should be plenty, and I installed multiman with around that much on there. Unfortunately I wasn't able to go to the dev_hdd0/game/BLES80608 folder as the package would just black screen.
I ended up figuring that I will just install kmeaw 3.55 and am following a tutorial so far to put OFW 3.55 on there, but it seems to be stuck on the "checking please wait" screen. Which is starting to make me think that this is more and more like a laser or bluray problem :(. As I read that it checks through ps3 hard-drive then blurray then the USB's so I'm guessing its not getting that far.
I also tried changing the display settings, an even using the standard AV cables instead of HDMI but unfortunately still get the same result, just with less quality video haha.
But yeah, I'm not too sure how to go about it now, thinking about if its possible to just FTP to the ps3 depending on whether I need to have a package open or not and try to update it that way, or maybe I might play around with the blu-ray drive and see if I can get it to do or change anything.
-------------------------------------- Update 1
After waiting for the checking please wait screen for about 30 minutes it started going through to installing the firmware. Unfortunately I come to another problem, it goes as far to about 70 percent and then I get an error saying error 8002F14E which is kind of making me think it may be even more the rom drive
Sounds like it is the logic board, try running a disc game and if it doesn't run then it probably is. BUT also try installing a bluray drive bypass firmware, if the CFW is the problem with apps not running and the bluray drive is busted then a bypass firmware might install properly so your able to test further. But it really does sound like the logic board.
Thanks guys soooo much :D!! Its fixed!! I'm soo happy, I ended up taking my PS3 apart and just undid everything to do with the bluray drive. Checked all connections a few times and made sure everything was looking like how it was supposed to.
Then I put it back together again and re ran the updates and they all worked :D!!
I now have 3.55 kmeaw which I'm so happy because now I know which one I have installed as well.
I was still wondering what happen before though, do you figure it could just be a cable came loose on my ps3 stopping it from working properly?? Or could it still be the logic board and it may randomly do this again at some point??
As I'm looking at buying more PS3 games but not sure whether I should get a lot of them if my PS3 ends up conking out again?
But still a very big thank you, heaps appreciated.
it was your blu ray ribbon that was loose it cannot update if it isnt connected from the mother board to the blu ray drive thats why it was going up to 70 percent then a error came on. it was as simply as that there was no other issues like a board problem.
