Chad is right, 750GB is the biggest that is safe. Some 1TB HDDs work, but it's not worth the risk. And it doesnt really matter about the brand. And if you want to save money get 5200rpm one as that's the max the PS3 will read it anyway as that's what the OEM HDDs speed is.

my 160GB is quickly running out of space too. Once backed up to an external then swapped the hard drive all the jailbreak stuff will be set just as it was on the original hard drive?
Im grabbing this one btw. Its 7200 but cheaper right now than the 5400 http://www.memoryexpress.com/Product....aspx?curtab=2

Not bad, but seagate has a horrible reputation for drives going bad way before their time. I'm thinking about this one...

Yea i'd go samsung over Seagate any day. And as i said, there is no performance gain for 7200rpm drives.

Bullshit! Of corse there is a performance gain. It is a basic S-ATA hard drive and the controller uses standard interfacing, I guarantee you, making 7200rmp faster than 5400. Precisely 1800rpm faster. Or 20-25%, give or take.
That aside, Seagate is among the best you can get. Samsung uses a no-name manufacturer, do you really believe yourself what you're saying? I've worked with IT for 15 yrs and am amazed of the ignorance
At any rate, Seagate offers 5 yrs warranty on their drives. AFAIK, Samsung doesn't give ANY.

BTW there was a Toshitba drive in my 120gb Slim. Changed it to a 7200rpm Seagate and it is FASTER.
