I'm hearing many good things about newsgroups. I've always been a torrent kinda guy, and i see that services like usenet and giganews require you to pay monthly fees to access. I'm just wondering if there is anything like those services for free?

As far as usenet, I don't feel safe downloading anything pirated from a direct website that's logging my ip and has my name, address, credit card info, etc. I've never heard of giganews.

I stay with torrents myself. uTorrent, forced encrypton, disallow legacy connections, peer gaurdian, and demonoid/piratebay/btjunkie are my friends. For news, irc or news sites such as this one and ps3news. I don't see the point in paying someone monthly access to get information that's free on the internet. I mean, for one, I already pay my ISP for that. For another, the internet was supposed to be all about the free exchange of knowledge; of course, this was the idea before ****, lol...

Yeah i figured i was gonna be hearing as much. I will stick to my torrents. I already use uTorrent and i usually download at 1.5-2mb when its a healthy torrent...sometimes even when its not. Any tricks to make my uTorrent faster? If not its quite fine i can download albums in seconds, movies in minutes, and games in a few hours or less. Patience is key. Back in original xbox modding days i use to wait days for my games to download.

Guy, definitely, though my wife could handle the same Q&As around here. I taught her well (just don't tell her I said that, lol).

I get about 1.8-2MB/s with uTorrent. Definitely better than xbox 1 days. All I do is start a couple downloads at night and leave 'em running all night. When I wake up I'm good to go. That's the main reason I prefer torrents over megaupload/rapidshare links. I download much faster off a torrent, and don't have to worry about split files, or time between downloads. Too bad the best place to get psn games is all megaupload links.

Oh, and if you need an invite to demonoid, I have a couple. I just REALY need one to blackcat games. They deleted my account a long time ago cause I didn't use em much. Now I can't get back in.

Well me myself i stick to Newsgroups. I have giganews unlimited and i am very happy. I pay 30 bucks a month but its def worth it. Before that i was using utorrent and getting my torrents off of Demonoid. I ws getting no more than 700kb and was constantly with the headache of finding a healthy seed.

With Giganews i dont have the same problem. For one the downloads are about 15mb-20mb p/s. Apart from that i dont have to worry about getting a healthy torrent cuz the connections are always open for about 900 days.

Also if the file im not looking for is not available i can request it and give it about 24 hours and behold..someone usually comes through. I useto be a die hard torrent head but not anymore!

Astraweb SSL £10.00 per month,Unlimited downloads. Newsgroups are the way to go.

wouldnt touch torrents if they was last thing on earth,

newsgroup providers dont give a shit what you download.
couple that with ssl encryption no one has a clue what your downloading except you and the server provider.
and seing as the server is hosting many many PB of illegal data then they aint going to shop you.

used to use giganews for many years and no problems, recently switched to astraweb as its cheaper,

personally for £7 GBP pm i max my 50mbit 24/7 with what ever takes my fancy, no waiting and no worrying if any of the seeds are bad, not to mention par recovery files ect. no bad downloads.

Torrents used to bother me with seeds too. Not so much anymore. Between the 3 sites I mentioned I almost always get a heathly torrent, even old ones. When I want that little boost from a few more people on it though, I go to torrentz.com/[id # of torrent pasted from utorrent] and it has a utorrent compatible list of trackers with peers and seeds on em. I almost always hit 2MB/s, which is 16mbps. Since I have a 24mbps internet connection, shared by a xbox 360, a ps3, 2 always on computers, and my 3 tvs (iptv), I know I'm getting about the max download speed my connection can even handle.

Newsgroups do sound good but the whole reason i modded my ps3 in the first place was because i recently got laid off. I dont want to spend any money on games at the moment but i really wanted to play dead space 2. i was gonna stick to PC cuz i have a gaming laptop but they were taking FOREVER to crack it (cant complain cuz i have no idea how crackin or jailbreakin works...smart guys...smart guys). So i just started googling and low and behold ps3 modding has came a fair way in these past months. I wasn't originally planning on modding any of my new systems but i saw how easy the ps3 was and just hopped on it. I was enjoying Dead Space 2 and Two Worlds II soon after.

But yeah i really dont want to put out any extra money for the Newsgroups at the moment. Once im working again i will possibly look into it. But torrents really do a good job. I dont ever have problems with seeds and my speeds are good. I do as blazie said and start downloads at night. If it's under 10 gigs though i can usually download it in 45 mins - 3 hours...not that bad of a wait when u consider it is free.

And i am not a cold hearted pirate. I support games i like. I have GTA IV on PC PS3 and 360 all legal and many other games in my sizable collection. A lot of the time torrents give me the chance to play games i would never have bought or rented and then i like them and become a fan. It's a double edged sword.

I would appreciate invites to any good torrent sites...i use btjunkie and piratebay at the moment and if they have been gettin me by as well as they have then i would like to see what these invite only sites have to offer
