Just bought my first ps3 looking for the kindness of backup community to help me –

First some background on me. I haven't owned a console since super nintendo. I have been a PC gamer since then. After seeing all this news about custom firmware for 3.55 on the ps3 that allows you to run any program and rip backups of ps3 games to the internal hard drive and play games off the hard drive as well as homebrew games found online I decided to go ahead on ebay and buy a ps3 with firmware 3.55 in it.
Now I got this ps3 and silly me i have no freaking clue how to even put a custom firmware on it let alone start ripping games and playing them off the hdd (this is only to protect the original disc from getting scratches i of course will own anything i backup)
Can anyone here help out a poor guy with a fresh 3.55 ps3 get it all nice and running for backups and homebrews. I will not forget your kindness in helping me and I will pass the knowledge on to the newbies that come after me and give back to the community as much as i possibly can.
Thank you all for your time in heelping me. I appreciate it more then anything.
Edit: I dont need PSN to be working. The console is going to be used for single player rpg;s like FFVII (just an example of type of games ill be playing on it) so i dont need any more steps of complication to get psn working just need the backup and booting of backups and homebrews to be working.

ok I just downloaded the pre patched ready to go Kmeaw cfw 3.55 from here http://ps3.dashhacks.com/downloads/k...fw-patched-pup
my ps3 is already on ofw 3.55
Is that standard Kmeaw cfw 3.55 good for using multiman to make backups and run backups and homebrew?
What do I do next?
That link helped somewhat but it doesnt actually give step by step instructionson what to do with the cfw .pup file

the next thing u do is put the cfw in a usb stick and update. There are tutorials about this, just search: "3.55 kmeaw tutorials"

ok is the lv2.pkg still required with multiman 1.17.02 FULL to run backups?
also I cant find a full install package for the 1.17.04 i found these
multiMAN ver 1.17.04 BASE (20110501_222200).rar 19.36 MB
multiMAN_01.17.03.pkg 1.83 MB
multiMAN ver 1.17.02 BASE (20110424_142000).rar 28.21 MB
for these files do i install with the full 100 meg + multiman and then these files update it once its already installed?

no, lv2 patcher is not needed anymore other than when using linux, all you need is the BDEMU.pkg installed after you install multiman or it wont load backed up games. You can find the BDEMU on any of the posts of the new Multimans

ok and what is the difference between
multiMAN ver 1.17.02 BASE (20110424_142000).rar 28.21 MB
multiMAN ver 1.17.02 FULL (20110424_142000).rar 135 MB
Should I just get the full and then use
multiMAN ver 1.17.04 BASE (20110501_222200).rar 19.36 MB
multiMAN_01.17.03.pkg 1.83 MB
both of those install the 03 then the 04 to upgrade or can i jus download the smaller BASE 1.17.04 and install fresh from that?
