I been doing a lot of looking around and someone brought to my attention ....that instead of buying a external im better off buying a internal hdd....has anyone brought one for the ps3 and installed if so how does it work for you??? I was told when backing up some games that there files exceed the limit compared to the external like they have to be in the 4gb range. If not u have to use the splitter...and he deff has a good point it would seem alot easier that way...and for the people who have external hdd rite now how is everything going for you with your backups? So shuld I buy a internal or external??? Hope some one can shed a little light for me about this

As far as I know internal harddrives have higher compatibility when loading games and it's faster to install (God of War 3 takes about 90 minutes on internal and about 240 minutes on external). As for compatibility, the list of working games haven't been updated in a while but I've been hearing a lot of good things about games running on external harddrives. I personally think getting an external is better in the long run, especially if you wanna go to a mates place and maybe swop out games. Just check the web also to make sure about current game compatibility on externals.

well.... the truth is.... you definately want a big internal hdd, because eventually as you start to test games out, either some only work on internal....or the game will have a game install. So, having a internal hdd is a plus. Alot of games do work on external but there are a handful of games that only work on internal. (Usually ps3 exclusives, some)
Also, having an internal sucks. Because if you try to FTP and you don't have a gigabit lan, it'll go very slow. For example, i dont have a gigabit lan and i have a 120gb internal...but i have a 2tb ext... So i split it to my external then i copy to internal. When i splitted the file or files bigger then 4gb to my hard drive and then decide to copy it to my internal, Gaia manager (and almost all other managers) automatically merge them for you. And its alot faster then FTP to the internal hdd.
My advise is, either way you'll be fine. But if you dont have a gigabit lan, expect to wait some time to get your games to the ps3. Maybe a external first then a internal may be the way. It all depends if you dont mind waiting.
