I seriously need some help
Okay, so here's the backstory: I started out with FW 3.40. Upgrade to 3.41. Waited at 3.41 because I heard about the jailbreak possibilities. Finally upgraded to OFW 3.55 when custom firmwares started gaining popularity. A week or two ago I switched from OFW 3.55 to 3.55-kmeaw. This was fine while the DNS trick worked, but when it was disabled, I realized that the only reason I was using a CFW was for backups, which are worthless to me because you can't get trophies from them. So, yesterday I decided to switch BACK to OFW 3.55, and then upgrade to 3.56.
Here's the problem: I read that to do this, you're supposed to access Recovery Mode and upgrade from an external HDD, then upgrade via internet to 3.56. For some reason, I can't access Recovery Mode (I tried multiple times: Hold down power button until PS3 turns on, then off, then hold it until it beeps twice. Never went into Recovery Mode.), so I decided to switch to OFW from the regular System Update option. That went okay, but here's the real problem: I can't upgrade to 3.56, I can't log into PSN, and my System Information says I'm on 3.55. The homebrew I had is gone, but whenever I try to log in, it says I need to upgrade. So I go to upgrade, and it says it's unnecessary because I already have the latest FW. What do I do?!!?!
