If you're familiar with IRC. Message xvistaman on Efnet, he can repair your YLOD for a reasonable price. He does very high quality work for a very reasonable price.

hey grandy, whats a reasonable price for that kind of repair? i dont have any issues yet but its nice to know what those kinds of things cost or if its just cheaper to go out and buy another ps3

It quite easy to fix yourself as long as you keep track of all the screws! lol diy fixes dnt last as long cos you'll be using a heat gun. I think most of the pros use some kind of oven to heat the boards up If your in the uk there is a place that does it for £54.99 inc delivery not worth opening it up if you're unfalilar with taking 1 apart for that price.

Ya I took it apart before and tryed a reflow but I was afraid to put to much heat on it. This time have nothing to lose ima heat it up good. But I'm aware reflow is temporary so I would really like to get a mother board for it.

A motherboard will probably be like 150 bucks or more. A professional can repair your CURRENT motherboard for less.

See that's my dilema. I could buy a brand new ps3 for 150. So if I let a pro repair it will he just reflow it or will he replace something. Cause a piece needs to be replaced to permanently fix a ylod.

well that was a fail.everything went well except the heat sync pads.one is like not even sticky anymore it was like laying piece of plastic on it.i put them on anyway even tho one slid out i just went on cause it meant to disassemble the whole motherboard case again which is a *****!
well first time i power on the light comes on i go to power it on i see a spark and imediatly shuts off.did that twice then actually came back on....with the ylod. pretty pissed shut it off and will not turn on again just shuts off right after i slide my finger.
im right about to give up on it unless someone thinks its the heat sync pads.like is this the symptom of a missing heat sync pad?i might give another shot but damn. i just want another ps3 to get on psn i miss red dead redemption SSOOOO bad.

What I did was buy a new ps3 a slim which I use for homebrew (Its awsome unbelivebly quiet and stays cool) then i repair my old 1 which I use for psn. Try putting a bit of thurmal paste on the pad, Dnt scared to give the board a gonig over with the heat gun as long as you use cyrcler motions and dnt leave on 1 part for to long. are you using no clean flux?
