I got a PS3 Slim from a lot of xbox 360's & PS3's & it powers on & everything, it's even on 3.55 FW but it doesn't read discs. When I put in a PS3 game, the disc reading icon just keeps spinning & then I hear a weird sound & then the game gets recognized but when I try to play the game I just see a black screen with stars. Obviously there is an issue with the laser but I don't know what's wrong. Do I have to just clean the lense or is the laser totally shot & I need a new one or is the blue-ray drive totally shot? I opened the blue-ray drive I was able to determine that the model is a KEM-450AAA. Should I buy a new laser that matches this model # or just buy a new KEM-450AAA blue-ray drive? Is the PS3 drives similar to the Xbox 360, in the sense that in order to switch an old dvd drive with a new one, I have to first get the drive key from the old drive, if so how can I go about doing this? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

you just replace the laser and it will work,if you change the whole drive you have to remarry bd drive.

dont have to remarry the drive you just change the bluray motherboard off the old drive and put it to the new drive sometimes it is easier to replace thewhole drive rather than just the laser but thats upto you
