HARD DRIVE UPGRADE –
01-21-2011,07:05 PM
Ok guys. think i need to upgrade the internal hdd as its nearly full. i would like to put 1tb externally using male to female sata with its own power supply.
Q:has anybody done this or has anyone a solution to get a big hdd working internally?.
i have seen they are now selling 750gb which has the correct dimensions to fit in the drive bay.
Q:has anyone got one and and does it work ok.
If anyone has any other ideas on getting the biggest possible hdd to run internally please inform us, as time goes on this will be a must for most.
Thanks in advance

No as the jailbreak edits the NAND memory of the system.
And the HDD above posted by timothymas is a drive that may not work with the PS3 as some 1TB HDDs do not work with it. I recommend 750GB and below.

This ain't gonna fit the ps3, you need a 9mm thick hdd for internal in ps3.

But i read on another forum that if you upgrade the to a new hdd that it will format and ask you to install the OFW. So will i still see the INSTALL PKGs folder in the GAME section of the xmb after i install the new hdd? What if i dont see it?

Yes, it will require you to reinstall OFW after swapping the hard drive. I recommend going to the recovery menu and upgrading to OFW before replacing your hard drive, then flashing back to CFW after the hard drive replacement and format is done. Its quick, easy, takes a couple minutes of effort, and most importantly covers your bases and assures no problems. With something as easy as switching back to OFW then back to CFW, I'm surprised anyone even tries to cut corners when messing around with a $300+ system.
