I successfully got into service mode, turned the console off via menu, plugged in FAT32 formatted USB with modded PUP and self file #1, power up and the PS3 just boots normally (into service mode of course). No black/blue screen, no 3-4 minute hang while FW installs. I've tried 4 different USB drives of varied size and manufacturer.

    Help?

Take out the JB device, then put in the USB into the closes to BDVD drive then boot it regularly. with lv2diag.self from the first folder and the modified pup. Then it should work.

What kind of JB device you have ?
And where did you download the firmware ?
Make both are compatible with one another.
I had the same issue with E3 card where I downloaded firmware wasn't mod for it.
Make sure it is the second usb port for the Slim PS3.

Hi, could someone give me some advice.

I have the Minimus AT90USB162 board. I have loaded the hex onto it, ps3 goes into service mode.
Then I turn the ps3 off and put my USB pen stick containing the 2 files on the root directory (PS3UPDAT.PUP and Lv2diag.self from file 1) the files are not in folders just both files in the root dir...into the ps3 most right port.
Power on the PS3 and the pen stick light is flashing as if its being read by the ps3, wait for 10 mins or so and then the pen sticks stops reading and the power light continuesly flashes...i have left it for half an hour and it has still been flahing so i just ended up killing the pwr.

I have tried downloading all files again and re-writing them more than once and still nothing...
The ps3 does not load after that..i turn it on power light goes green then 60 seconds later it turns off.

BUT...if i put firmware 3.50.pup (which is the firmware i am currently on) onto the usb stick and plug it in, it does exactly as before so I end up killing the power again but when i turn ps3 back on it loads normally into 3.50!

    Any ideas??

I have a similar problem. I had put my ps3 in service mode, then turned off and put in usb in closest to the blue-ray drive. Turned back on and I noticed the green light flashing not the hard drive light. I left it on for more than a hour. I decided to turn off and when I tried to turn back on i got the green light for 10 seconds and the hard drive light lit up and the power went off. I tried to replace the hard drive but the problem remains. Please help. Is my Ps3 bricked?

I managed to get back into my ps3 but still on fw 3.50...
basically when i got the pwr on and then powering off problem i did the folllowing:

download the 3.50 ps3 firmware, which will give you the PS3UPDAT.PUP file and you put that with the Lv2diag.self from the file your using to downgrade with (1st file) do exactly what you did when trying to downgrade to 3.41 but ith the 3.50 pup file...you still get the flashing green light at the end but if you killl the power and switch back on it should load into 3.50 again.....mine did!

I tried that, but the power just turns off after 10 seconds. I followed the downgrade instructions, I got it into service mode then I turned off then back on with 3.41 pup and the Lv2diag.self on usb in slot closest to the blue-ray drive and the first time the ps3 green light would flash and the usb light flashed. After over an hour I turned off my ps3 and ever since I have been unable to get it to stay on. It starts to power up with green light for about 8-10 seconds then I see the hard drive light light up once and the system shuts down. I have tried to do as u suggested to no avail. Someone PLEASE help me.
