Hey guys,

I turned here because I've tried everything else and thought someone might have an idea that could help me out.

I have an old "fat" 60 gb PS3 that died a while back (before the firmware with the safe mode). Now if I had safe mode, I could enter it by doing the Power-up combinations of button pressing but it doesn't work for me and brings me back to the error message of "Cannot Start. The Correct Hard Disk Was Not Found.".

I've tried different hard drives, no hard drive, etc - they all give the same error. I've also taken the PS3 apart, cleaned the contacts, checked for loose connections, etc - no change and still the same error message.

Does anyone have any other ideas to try? Sony want $200 to fix it but that's about the same price that I can buy a working system for .

I put the latest firmware on a USB key and was thinking...is there any way to force the PS3 to boot up to the USB key or force a firmware update?...this way I could use the safe mode tools and probably fix my own system. If this is possible, what files do I need and where do I put them?

Thanks for any ideas or any help!!
