Can you run backed up games if your ps3 can not read blueray discs?

Ok so I found a white ps3 for 80 bucks, everything works except for the blueray laser. Can read normal dvds though (i am guessing there are 2 lasers?) Is there anything I can do to buy this cheap and jailbreak it? Or no matter what I need a ps3 disc in the drive to run games?

well a working bluray drive helps but some backup managers dont need it my ps3s laser is dead i just sent it out for a new diode but yer man its worth jailbreaking you probably can run 30-50% of games as it is now good luck

dont the new managers require you to have a disc in it and load it via the disc icon? Something with syscall36 or something.

damnit why do they require a disk >< i understand the procedure for what they are doing but surely they can dupe it for ps3s if you dont plan on going online ever. I would think about getting this just as a multimedia ps3 and just have emulators only but I can do that with any other system so.......damn i really wanna grab this though at 80....such a waste ;; nice white edition too haha

Use Rogero 7.9 I think that one still runs without a need of a disc.

No, no, guys.
Install Kmeaw 3.55 CFW and install the lastest Rogero Manager.
Put your game in GAMEZ folder and select it in the Rogero.
So, just run the game using the folder /app_home/PS3_GAME/

Tried 5~8 games (including Marvel vs Capcom 3) and all of them worked.

Can anyone else confirm this? And that it would be more than 5-8 games. I am guessing I need rogero manager people! Please!
Marvel vs Capcom would be pointless as I would not be able to go online with this other console. Since I could not create a new psn account on it due to them wanting me to be on 3.56.

Your laser doesn't need to be working. It just needs to detect the disc is in the ps3. And the method Shinji does work, for 30-50% of games.
