Can somebody solve this HDD problem?
Can somebody solve this HDD problem? –

Hi fellas...
First of all I'm not a newbie. (I know how to mod a console / Jtag-Chip etc.)
I'm using WesternDigital MyBook 1130 2Tb USB 3.0 (USB 2.0 backward support) on my ps3... 1 TB is Fat32 / 1TB NTFS...
I used this HDD on my friends phat 80gb without problem. He just gave me (when he going to China for busines) his phat-s3 for few months. When he came back I buy myself a slim and here is my problem begins.
PS3 MODEL (CECH-2104B) 250GB SLIM EU PAL
My Ps3 is never sees this HDD.
I have used JB-3.41fw / kmeaw-3.55cfw / rebug-3.55.1cfw... with all managers.
Nothing happens.
First I changed the partitions.
Because on WinXP Fat32 comes first (like drive:C) and NTFS part comes second (like drive
)...
But on Vista & 7, NTFS part comes first & Fat32 part comes second.
I have formatted FAT32 part to NTFS & NTFS part to FAT32...
Nothing changed.
I have tried formatting to 1 partition fat32 & nothing....
Then I re-formatted to NTFS...
I have tried with Multiman trick & guess what? (nothing)
Question: I have tried USB.CFG file with this ID's 0x1058:0x1130:1 & 0x1058:0x1130:2
Do I have to do anything with options_default.ini file?
Now I using with 2 NTFS partitions.
First one is empty & second one is full...
IMPORTANT THING IS...
I have a noticed some external WD HDD's won't work on WinXP without WD SES driver.
Also phat-s3's can read various type of memory cards.
Sony uses same ofw on both consoles but I found this;
3.55 EU UPDATE is only 170mb / 3.55 FOR ALL is 256mb...
The Installer might be installing different types of files to each model...
So what causes to this problem?
Driver or hardware difference?
If it's causes from hardware difference, I don't know how to fix that?
Is there any Usb3-to-Usb2 converter on the market?
But if causes from driver problem, can Dean inject the driver to his MultiMan?
Or CFW masters can inject the driver to CFW?
How can I reach them? (E-mail or blog)
I'm not asking just for me. There is lot of people using WD SES HDD...

ya dude lota writing can scare peopl. i havent even read it all lol.
but dude what are you using to format your external hdd??? cause i can tell you vista+swissknife=trouble.
so i used a lil flashdrive for a loooong tme and my main ext.hdd crashed so i nedded something to play a game off of so i used my flashdrive an i put nba2k11 on it an it worked but my gamesave data wouldnt load so i though it was my end (it was actually the wrong game backup so it couldnt read the gamesave) so i reformatted my flashdrive using swissknife in vvista and now my ps3 wont read my flashdrive for nothing. then i tryed with my bros flashdrive and at first it read it then i reformat it an its gone.long story short if i use swissknife in vista it will make my flashdrive not readable(that was my situation)
well best i could recommend is to put the external hdd back to default then use the program swissknife in win 7 or xp and reformat whatever you want to FAT32.
*EDIT* i was just thinkin bout it i just got back from my buddy setting his up he had the same kind western digital. your problem most likely not the same but his was password protected and it wasnt untill i went in an reset it up to no password fr the ps3 to read it.
welll hope you get it

Ok looks like no one will help him??? I will.
First off I have noticed that you have a split partition on your HDD.
From my experience both of my ps3's both PHAT & SLIM, they dont like split partition's or 2 HDD's on the same USB port.
PS3's don't read NTFS either. I havn't even bothered using the NTFS library with multiman.
Providing that you have soft modded your ps3 correctly(Im not going to write a tut search google)
Lets start from the start shall we.
Download Partion Master Home link is here
Once downloaded, install it.
Plug in the HDD that you want to use and Run Partion Master.
You will see a list of all HDD connected to your PC (Disk 1 should be your internal drive)(Disk 2 will be your HDD you want to format providing you don't have any other HDD or flash drives connected)
Now from what you have told me you will see 2 partitions located under Disk 2.
Right Click on one of them and click "Delete Partition" do the same for the other one.
After you have formated them you will see under Disk 2 " * Unallocated".
Right Click and click "Create Partition". A window will pop up.
Set the partition label to what you wish for your HDD.
Set "Create As" as "Logical"
Set "File System" as "Fat32"
Set "Partition Size" to the maximum value
Click OK.
Now you should see under Disk 2 ([DriveLetter] Fat32 [and usage and size here]
If you do see that then Click the Tick in the top left corner it should say that there are some Operations currently pending.
Click yes.
Wait for it to finish.
When its finished unplug HDD from PC and plug it into PS3, goto Video,Music or Photo on your PS3 and see if it can see it.
If it does then your backup manager should see your HDD. If not then message me back.

what a nerdy way of startng your comment especially when u just said the same thing i did but instead of my recommendation you said "partition master" when i can tell swissknife is way easier then all that.

Finally some kind peoples decided to help!
Thanks both of you bros.
I have used Fat32formatter_D (D is a version) on my XP comp.
Before that one I have used so many format programs.
(Swisknife / Easeus Partition Master / Partition Magic / Acronis Disc Manager etc.)
"happyface"
I'm not having trouble with partition programs and I have a both systems Win7 64Bit & WinXP 32Bit (Vista is sucks). I always used this programs on XP.
Also mine is not password protected.
"Joshtec"
If I do what you said; I have to lot of work to do & It's not what I want.
1. I don't have a any free space on my computer or any external device & MyBook's NTFS part is full.
2. I have a lot of files & Iso's over 4gb+...Iwas transferring 4gb+ files from ftp.
3. Merging & Converting to Fat32 is not possible right now. (As I said 4gb+ files)
4. Also I just wanted to read this disc. I don't wanna play games or watch movies on that. I'm already quiting on that. If I do readable I can copy to my internal HDD.
I just wanted to use this HDD like I used on phat-s3...
1TB Fat32 for games & 1TB NTFS for my files included 4gb+...
You mentioned "Create As" as "Logical".. I checked out & realized my entire disc is "Primary"...
Phat-s3 reads like that but I'm gonna give it a try.
I'm converting right now.
When it's finished I let you know guys...

Nope changing "Primary" to "Logical" is not working.
Now I'm pissed off, I'm gonna set up my blank dvd's & backup my all data on this hdd.
Sleepless nights waiting for me...
Then I'm gonna format this entire disc to 1 partition Fat32.
If it's not working yet, I don't know what I have to do...

I have a 1tb with a fat32 partion and ntfs my reads fine with both my phat and slim. My question is are you using a hub? When I use an 4-way usb hub the light comes on the hdd but it dnt read it? there are limits to fat32 size wise why dnt you try partioning it twice i.e. 2x fat32 and 1 ntfs ( make sure the fat32 <1tb)
-

I'm not using hub and my fat32 part is 1tb.
I have reserved 1024gb to ntfs part & rest of them is reserved for fat32 (looks 886gb)
My new trial is updating a ext.hdd's firmware...
But I'm confused about that, cause website says "backup all of your data"...
Is firmware update deleting all data on hdd?
Any kinda information will be good...
