Backup PS3 with GT5 save game so I can instal Linux
Backup PS3 with GT5 save game so I can instal Linux –
I'm on CFW3.55 WT. PS3 160GB Slim.
A quick question. (Don't set me on fire) I need to back up my PS3. My main concern is the GT5 save game I have and since my PS3 has never been online (as I don't have internet at home), I cannot simply backup my save game due to the copyright on it, which you have to update GT5 in order for that stupid idea to go away.
Can someone give me an idea as to the best option to go about when backing up, so that I may still have my GT5 save game and my Linux back. (I know of the method using someone else's internet connection. But nobody I know has internet and at work is not an option)
Thanks in advance.
back it up using the backup utility, and personally I'd also copy it with a file manager like congenies or multimans
Backup utility wont take a backup of the copy protected save files. If you try to restore the backup it would not restore those files.I have tries that and didnt work. Since i have two PS3 I did a PS3 to PS3 transfer using ethernet cable but the copy protected files will be deleted from the source ps3

No, backup utility very much backups up saved games, i have done it and i know. When you first backup up it says in big BOLD letters, everything INCLUDING PROTECTED SAVES will be backed up, only thing not backed up will be the trophies, homebrew and backed up games.

Probably wont work though, it's like trying to copy a rented DVD. I bet someone with a little know how can remove the copyright. (Homebrew app idea devs?) Thanks for the suggestions all and keep them coming. Regards.

And assuming that all homebrew and owned game backups are ignored by the backup utility as perspex states.
Oh and google was not my friend for the above Q or for at least 50 pages
From RazorX via email. (Thanks RazorX)

Thats not true entirely, if you make a back up anything in dev/hdd0/game gets backed up even homebrew.. I did a backup to downgrade and it returned all my installed homebrew

So, like I said, back it up with the backup utility and make a manual backup with a file manager, just in case. LMFAO. 4 days of arguing came to the same conclusion I stated back then.
Yes blazie151, you where spot on (+REP) but failed to elaborate in detail as RazorX did. I would have overwrote the param.sfo and stuffed it up.
