There is a DNS hack to bypass the update and get back online. Look for it on youtube.

This does not work if you have not setup or registered your psn name yet though.....does it? Mine says I have to download the update to proceed with getting to the registration page.

If you haven't setup a PSN account and you're getting the "Sign up for Playstation Network" on the XMB, you're screwed. I've been scouring the net to see if anyone knows how to bypass it without updating to 2.56 and so far zilch has come up.

I stress to anyone...don't do a recovery or screw something up to where you have to reinstall the OFW 3.55 and you don't have a backup of your files...because you won't be able to do the DNS bypass. (at least not till someone figures away around it)

Try the new psn spoofer that's on this sites latest news page. From my understanding, it spoofs your firmware across $ony's servers, not just the gaming one. It may allow you to sign up or recover your login.
