3.55 Kmeaw CFW black screen for EVERYTHING
3.55 Kmeaw CFW black screen for EVERYTHING –

So I just purchased a CECHG01 80 Gig model PS3 off ebay. The system has a bad laser but still accepts discs. I was able to flash 3.55 CFW on to the system but if I try to run ANY application, I just get a black screen and have to restart the system. I've tried running Multiman, GAIA, LVL 2 Patcher, Fix Permissions, an SNES emulator, and a PSN game and all give a black screen.
So far, I've tried openining the system to make sure the connections to the disc drive were connected properly, reflashing to 3.55 OFW then back to 3.55 CFW, connecting AV wires instead of HDMI, and changing screen resolution but nothing is working.
The only other thing of note is that the system came without the hard drive installed so I had to use a 40 gig hard drive from another PS3 I had. The system formatted it and everything though so I'm not sure if this would be the issue.
I have another CECHG01 with the same firmware and it works fine also with a bad laser so I'm stumped. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank You

Also, I checked to make sure the md5 of the firmware on my flash drive was correct and it verifies ok so I don't believe the flash drive is to blame.

Well, I figured it out...
Apparently the guy who sold me the system had attempted to replace the drive and they weren't married.
So...
After following a tutorial online, I was able to get them married and now multiman loads. Also, the drive might actually be functional since it recognized a blu ray when I put it in the system. Win/Win I say.

Yeah, all is well. I tested a blu ray movie and PS3 game and it reads both fine with no hiccups. So I basically got a fully working PS3 for $75. Thanks for the replies though, guys.
