[SOLVED]Need help with network settings
[SOLVED]Need help with network settings –

Been searching for a thread to explaining setting up a bogus gateway. I still want local network for streaming, but don't need internet access. Just tired of seeing prompts to update game software and system ofw updates, don't need to worry about children accidentally updating firmware.
I have a Linksys E3000 wireless router and my PS3 is connected via LAN cable. Not sure if its better to use invalid gateway or dns settings.....I've read that I need the actual gateway of my router for local streaming, which makes sense and I would use a bogus DNS entry, but others say just to use the bogue gateway anyway and not to mess with the DNS settings,,,local streaming should still be available....Does it really matter??

Maybe you can set your router to filter/block the ps3's mac from accessing net, that is another route. I remember trying to use something other than 192.168.0.1 (that is my gateway) but it was still able to access net somehow, though that could've been because I forgot to disable the proxy :P so you could prolly give it something else besides what you have right now as the gateway, just don't change the other ip settings.

just manually choose an ip address and subnet mask, but for the gateway ip put 1.1.1.1. for the dns server(s) put 2.2.2.2 & 3.3.3.3. it just needs an ip address and subnet mask to communicate on the local network

I ended up using my correct IP and Gateway but used a bogus DNS address, I also blocked Internet access using my MAC address in my router settings. I still have a ticker at times but I no longer get alerts about updating my games software or system update. I think Im good...thanks everyone for your posts....
