writeup - action replay max and mc exploit –
Just a quick thanks to everybody up here. I was finally able to get my unmodded ps2 to work. Here's what I did...
- Got a Maxtor 120gig drive
- Pack of 100 cd-r's (not needed, found out later!)
- network adapter
- action replay max evo
OK, so here is what you do. I figured out the AR max thing thismorning. I know there's a million writeups about it, but this worked awesome for me and some of the writeups are confusing.
So far, find a PS1 original game. If not, go to a used game store and buy the cheapest one. Take it home, check out the disc ID number. Do this by putting the cd in your computer, going to the cd-rom drive and opening a file called 'system.cnf'. In this file, you will see a code that is also on the front of the disc. That's the disc id. It looks like slus-006.05 or something like that.
Then, go over to this awesome web page. This guy was nice enough to take his mod'ed ps2, a few games, and upload the different memory files for you to download. Hats off to you and thanks again for doing this. The site is.. http://home.comcast.net/~avitus/wsb/...ome.html-.html
Download the different files. Once downloaded, open each zip and the file titlex.txt. Search the file for the disc id number (IE: 006.05). Go through every zip until you find it. If you can't, then try another ps1 game.
Then, take the .max file and copy it to the usb thumb drive. Take the thumb drive, insert in ps2. Then, put in the AR max disc in, go into the memory manager. Choose the thumb drive as the primary, and select the system backup image. "Uncrush" the image to the memory card 1. Power down, put in disc that you used the disc ID for, power up, and you should be golden.
I was shocked this worked! I am so happy that everything went smoothly. Thank you again (avitus) for putting this stuff up there. If not, I would be scratching my head again today. I haven't tried any imports or copying anythign to the HD yet, but I have a pretty good feeling it will work.
Thanks again and good luck!
This is exactly what I needed!! Thanks so much for making it so easy!!
This may seem like a dumb question, but how do you configure the button functions within keyloader?
hey, no question is a dumb question!
Answer: I don't know. :-D
I just got this thing up and running an hour or so ago and I didn't have a lot of time to monkey around with it. Here is what I'm going to try...
Boot up the ftp server on the ps2. Use your machine to ftp into the ps2 and you can then edit the memory card files on there. From there, I'm sure there's a config file you can edit that will change what you do.
The most important/exciting thing is that the keymenu works. From there, I'm sure there's enough utils to do what you have to.
If I figure it out, I'll let you know! Or, if you figure it out, let me know. :-D
You were right, all I had to do was FTP into the memory card and edit the KL.dat file. It was pretty easy, the only problem I had was that my connection with the PS2 kept dropping and I'd have to restart it. Thanks again for the great info!
Well, you did better than me. My connection doesn't drop, but for some reason, I do not see any files under the mc. I posted another msg up in here, but I haven't checked it yet. Maybe somebody else knows what's going on with it.
Glad it worked for you!!!
Hey congrats and nice tutorial! Glad everything worked out for you
I have the AR Max software, but the names of the menus differ from what you wrote. For example, on mine it's called 'Max Memory' in stead of Memory Manager. After selecting my pen drive as the primary, when I go to 'uncrush' it says there are no files on the drive...
What gives? Are there different versions of the AR Max software?
