Would like to upgrade old PS2? Help...

I have a v4 ps2 with the messiah installed. I would like to get a new premodded one . Which is more user friendly the M2 or the DMS V2. What would you guys/gals get? I was thinking of getting it from XMODD.. Is this a good place? Thanks for the help...

If you are getting a premod and have the money get it with the DMS3 V2. The DMS3 has extra features and it's upgradable so it never goes obsolete.

not True, DMS3 AKA PMS3 is a great chip and all, but they had to make a whole new chip just to add v9 support, which was promised through flash upgrading (if I recall)

Well, its always better to be able to update the chip than having to buy a new one everytime. And I totaly understand why they couldn't/wouldn't release a patch for that new model since it's so different. And the flash part of the chip is not protected so the people could hijack the code for their own mod

They've never promised V9 support with a flash update anyway. And how many people buy a chip for their PS2, then buy a new system to put the old chip back unless the old system is broken?

No dms3 only promised for future things. V9 needs a new boot code which isn't on the flashable part of chip. The upgradeable part are the features and bios

Think of the DMS3 flashable feature as bug-fix insurance. M2 already got a proven track record. I go for M2 (IMO) unless you are really into the extra feature. XMODD is great. I got mine from there. Fast and good comunication all the way. He use to use Tofuinc / Vietnamese on this forums. I haven't check the Buy/Sell/Trade for a while though.

Well I ordered the premodded PS2 with DMS from XMODD.. What are the other features and are there different ways of booting up backup, ps2, psx etc. with this chip? I also just bought a dvd burner it is a sony dvd+/- burner.. Is record now max and nero able the work with is burner? Thanks....

I think the reason for a new chip for V9 specifically from both Messiah and DM3 is because they are out of space on the current Actel chips.

From what I understand, the DVD controller is basically the same on all versions. The only updates are to the BIOS, so if it could be flashed, then an update should have handled it.

I say this because we are working on a direct boot mod with PS1 stealth and so far the code for the DVD controller is pretty much all the same. The only variations are within the BIOSes.

Check out DMS3 for all your information about the chip. Getting Netmech to install mine (V5) in a few days, only heard good things about the chip.
