I've found a V. 0 locally and I'm seriously thinking on buying it, but I really don't want to pay too much to get it. I'll have to run up there to get their price on it tomorrow. So I'm just trying to get people's opinion on how much its worth. Any comments on this is appreciated.

Well I got one, I think I paid $25 shipped for it off ebay because it was broken (Didn't read discs and tray didn't open) but I was able to fix all that and its working perfectly except the fact I can't play DVD based games until I find a JAP DVD or HD utility disc to install the driver (SCPH-10000 & 15000 don't have a default DVD driver) Ive still yet to determine if I can use a US utility disc for it though. BTW u need a ORIGINAL utility disc for it to work, backups will not work due to it being magic gate encrypted. Also alot of emulators do not work with it, for example - SNES-Station, Pgen, PSMS, the Atari emu, etc
SMS, HDloader, and USBAdvanced also do not work.
Homebrew games and Neo Geo CD is what I've found to work.

Modchips off the top of my head that work for it are:
DMS3 (any version), Messiah and I think Messiah clones, Ghost 2
V4 MI w/500gb HD & custom HD fan
    V9 CC 2.0 w/300gb HD
    V4 DMS4 Pro w/250gb HD
    V3 CC 2.0
    V12 Modbo 745 /clear case
    V0 SCPH-10000 JAP w/ DMS3

Thanks for the info. It is a SCPH-10000 and it does have a disc with it that looks like a utility disc (looks like the us one, but I can't read jap), but instead of the hdd bay, it looks like a PCMCIA slot. (although I do have a pressed US hdd utility disc that I can experement with.)

As for modding it, I"m not sure I would (mainly because the only chip I have availible is another MI Green Dot.) If anything else, I might see if it can be exploited with a jap psx disc.

I'm mainly thinking on getting it just to kee, but sometimes play with, and maybe once in a while mess around with some jap games. Again, thanks for the info.

Unless you have the external HDD and PCMCIA card for the V0's then u can't use the HDD. Even if u had all that then the only thing you could use is BB Nav which is in all JAP. Also there is NO exploit for V0's. They are only kinda worth thier collectability really and playing backups w/ a modchip.

I got the usb 2.0 PCMCIA card and external hdd covered. Although I didn't know that about the exploit with v0's, nice to know that before I do anything. I guess if I do get that system, I'll look around for a DMS3. Thanks again.

The DVD driver is only for movies dvd, not for games, your lens might be in a bad condition...

If I were to get that system, the DVD driver is of no concern. I don't play DVD's in a ps2 anyways because I've got a standalone DVD player with my setup. Well that and I don't see the need to burn up my laser playing movies where a standalone player is just as cheap if not cheaper than the ps2 laser.

Edit - hmmm after looking here I see that its a specialized external PCMCIA and hdd that has to be used. well that sucks.

Really? Wow news to me! I'll check it out. Could of sworn that laser worked. It will continue to read the DVD forever when I put one in. No Disc read error or RSOD either, just says reading disc.

in my opinion V9 are the best. they got all the snazzy stuff. like the built in IR.
Progressive movies. only thing they lack is the IEEE 1394 port.

In your opinion. Personally I prefer a v7 simply because it takes a beating and keeps going. But my whole objective on this thread was to find the worth of a version 0 ps2, simply because I found one locally and really don't want to be overcharged if I decide to buy it. I'm just interested in owning a version 0 because they are fairly rare anymore and plan on keeping mainly to play games once in while and mainly as a museum peice.
