GH-004 and GH-005 use wires instead of the flexible flat cable you mention for the power/eject buttons. Then everything from GH-006 (V3) to GH-022 (V7/V8) use that flat cable.
Honestly that Vx denomination is wrong on several orders of magnitude.
There's TWO PS2 models that were released BEFORE what the pirates call "V1" so that naming scheme was wrong already when it started.
We have GH-001/002 (SCPH-10000) and GH-003 (SCPH-15000/early 18000) then the GH-008 (late SCPH-18000) which was released in between the "V2" and "V3" in Japan.
Also SONY calls them this way:
SCPH-10000,15000, early 18000 - "A-CHASSIS"
SCPH-3000x (V1) "B-CHASSIS"
SCPH-3000x (V2) "B-CHASSIS' " (B-CHASSIS dash)
SCPH-18000 (GH-008) "AB-CHASSIS" (Basically this is like an V2 or V3 with PCMCIA instead of expansion bay)
SCPH-3000x (V3) "C-CHASSIS"
SCPH-3000x (V4) "D-CHASSIS"
SCPH-3x00x/R (V5/V6) "E-CHASSIS"
SCPH-3900x (V7/V8) "F-CHASSIS"/"G-CHASSIS"
SCPH-5000x (V9) "H-CHASSIS"
SCPH-5000x (V10) "I-CHASSIS"
SCPH-7000x (GH-035) "LCG-CHASSIS"
Etc etc.
SCPH-10000_GH-001 SCPH-15000_GH-003 SCPH-18000_GH-008 SCPH-30001_GH-005 SCPH-30000_GH-016(V4) SCPH-30001_GH-010(V4)
2xSCPH-10190, 2xSCPH-10350, 2xSCPH-10280
