Firstly, i already had the LA chip fix done by myself, so rule that out.
I was installing a DMS3 mod into my V9 PAL, and i tested it half way through the install, i.e. a few CDVD points weren't done yet, but just to see that all was still ok. I powered it up, and nothing happened. So i took the chip out fully, cleaned up all the points etc, and put it back together again. Now, it'll power up from reset to a black screen (the black screen will start when the fan does), and the tray will go in and out with the eject button. The drive doesn't spin the media and nothing is on the screen.

What's gone wrong? overheated a chip or something? Worth repairing or just get a new mainboard?

dac3: the power/GND weren't connected to the mod though.

Insulation is the key, particularly the plastic covers that go on top of the metal areas.I had a V9 that would boot fine again and again with the case off but wouldn't work once the controller port or fan section were screwed down,or even re-arranged in a certain way. Also make sure you keep the chip and bared wires as low to the boad as possible. You shouldn't need to tape this as there is always going to be components already in there at a high level than your wires

It's likely your V9 is dead.. this is because Sony designed their PS2 V9 and upwards to automatically break(in 1 week to a few months time) once a modchip is installed. That's what I heard from a mod installer that sells pre modded PS2.

Redfield, it's not the LA chip if thats what you mean. I think it may be a CDVD short.
