what would cause a static like sound

someone i know got a messiah 2 v2 and tried to put it in a v7
well half way thought he relized he does not ahvw the skills
so he took the chip out and it plays fine just always has a static sound
he is sending it to me to mod and look at the static problem
where should i start with trying to fix the sound

by listening to it...not many things can cause a sound, has to be some type of moving part, laser maybe...

hmm a static sound.. first i would look around the ntsc/pal color fix point.. he may have buggered something around there. Basicly just look for tiny balls of solder in between the pins of the microchips.. i suggest using a magnifying glass with lots of light. broken resisters/capacitors can also cause such a problem.

no static noise come from chip near the bios to the left of it

Nope, it's a short at the bios's 2nd memory bank. if i'm correct, i bet it wasn't showing the DVD player version either?

One thing you should note is that the SPU2(Sound Processing Unit 2) is located on the same bus as the BIOS, they just have seperate Chip Select pins. Check your BIOS pins.
