    Hello,

I'm having a major speed burning problem; I've gone through 3 discs in 30 minutes :O And not one worked [properly]. I'm trying to backup my Ratchet Deadlocked game, but it's not working this time for some reason. Here's the specs of my software/hardware:

    1. I used Swap Magic (NOT ESR, but if it'll work better, please let me know how and why).
    2. The discs SAID 16x max write speed (or 16x anyway), and then I go to burn it, and it says 22X. What gives?
    3. It tried the following disc speeds: 8x (what I normally use, as most of the discs I get have 16x max write, and I hear that 1/2 max write is best; but what truly is the best?) didn't work, the game went too slowly, 12X (slightly higher than 1/2 of 22) didn't work, the game wouldn't load at all, and 10X (slightly lower than 1/2 of 22), and that STILL didn't work. It seemed to go slightly faster than the 8X, but still not fast enough. What gives? Seems like 8x-10x was too slow, and 12x was too fast. And of course there wasn't an 11x or I'd have used it before 12 and 10.
    4. My PS2 is a SCPH-700012 USA NTSC console. It never works with DVD+Rs, but is there possibly a solution to that? I have some Sony brand DVD+Rs, but no -Rs of anything -_- And in Ecuador finding ANY disc is not an easy task. But it USUALLY works with discs that have 16x max write speed (this one advertised it but it ended up being 22x, and 1/2 of that is an odd number....) when I burn at 8x.
    5. I have two DVD drives; a HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH22LS50 ATA Device (Super Multi, LG, LightScribe, and SecurDisc are all on the front of the drive), and a TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S222A ATA Device (Super WriteMaster, SpeedPlus are all on the front of the drive). All 3 discs were burned using the TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S222A ATA Device.
    6. Again, the game is Ratchet and Clank Deadlocked; not a dual layer game I believe, as it's the right size for a single disc.
    7. Oh yeah, I have FreeMCBoot installed on both of my memory cards. Should I use ESR instead of SwapMagic?

Please ask if I need to provide any more information, and please feel free to give as much info as you want/think I'll need!

Thanks for any and all help,
    James

P.S. My console still works fine with non-backup/retail games. Just my backup isn't working today

Unfortunately, 4X has never worked for me; goes very slowly. And I always use IMGBurn.

Hmm I just remembered that the last time I used 4X was on a +R disc....and then I figured that +Rs didn't work on my console. So should I give 4X a try then?

EDIT: Wait, but if the burn speed has nothing to do with that, then why didn't the game work right? All of my other games worked perfectly at 8x, but this one didn't work at that. What could be the problem?

Ok, I finally found out what the problem was; I burned the game too fast. So I did another 2 copies of the game and the 2nd one at 4X worked perfectly.

Shall I delete this thread or leave it open, as my problem is resolved?

It's hard to get good discs in Ecuador (or I risk paying a boatload of shipping to get anything here, and the fact that it'll take up to 1 1/2 months to get into my hands) :/ Although, I recently bought some discs here that were $.43 each, and according to the disc ID, it is a 1st class media! So maybe I can get high quality discs here for cheap. LOL. Now I think I need to go buy like 50 of those to keep me stocked for a while! Don't think we've ever had 1st class media before; even all of these brands we got in the States weren't this good. This makes me quite happy
